Unless something concrete comes out I suspect the first confirmation one way or the other will occur a good few hundred miles away at Grosmont at around ten to eight tomorrow morning!

I suspect that with your links to the NYMR you are probably closer to knowing what will happen tomorrow in terms of movements of locomotives than most - any signs of smoke rising for a positioning move (it will be like waiting for a new pope to be appointed!)

If you click on "watch thread" in the top right hand corner of a page you can get alerts without necessarily having posted. (You can also "Unwatch" watched threads if they all get a bit too "Tap Room" on your alerts counter ...)

Had it been Tangmere, there would be enough smoke for the election of 35 popes and I would have seen it from Surrey.

Mr K is probably right I could see the smoke from a Bulleid at Grosmont here in the Vale of York, but I think it would take a really poor fireman to achieve it even with a brace of Black Fives!

I sense at the moment, there are very few people (if, indeed any) who actually know for certain what the next days hold for the GBVIII.

Cheers Tom! (Or was it self-defence against further similar comments posted for the same purpose? ;))

The only people who really need to know are those on the train. Silence from them suggests it's going to happen as they were told because were it not then I suspect someone would say.

If my source is correct then the Class 66 and crew will be briefed and ready to go on Thursday. It is just so sad for the passengers though.

Too bad that 86259 can't do one of the segments.

86259 is currently being repaired - bogie / tyre replacement I believe.

It's only sad for the passengers if they don't know and are still expecting a DL to Shrewsbury and steam onwards. Now that the trip is under way, I really think that this Chinese whispers stuff must be pretty tiresome for those on the train who are reading posts your like one and the earlier 'spoiler' comment by LMarsh1987 about Thursday being a diesel all the way to Grange.
