During a military exercise on the training area at Longmoor in 1980, my company came across an ex-WD 0-6-0ST boiler in the undergrowth. I put a thunderflash in the firebox, and it made a lovely bang! (Reminiscent of "Back to the Future - Part III")

I have been told that an ex South Eastern 0-4-4T is buried under the designer outlet at Ashford in Kent. This is on the site of the old Kimberly part of Ashford Railway works. The ground here was built up, no doubt much of it was any suitable waste. A friend told me that the loco was on an isolated length of track away from any rail connection and then just disappeared very quickly.

The story behind the buried loco at Ashford was completely debunked when the outlet was built. Ground suveys of the entire site were carrried out to look for it and all that was found was some dandelions and a scrunched-up copy of Penthouse!

Trying to think which docks were filled in after that time; Herculaneum or Toxteth maybe?

Most definitely wrong. All the Hornby stock ended up at the original Hattons shop in Smithdown Road.

Nah, left it because had read it thoroughly cover to cover several times. These things are best 'recycled'.
