    Afternoon All,

Whilst in North Wales earlier this month I called in at the Bala Lake Railway. Being a Friday, no trains were scheduled to run, but I called in on the off chance and was delighted to find WINIFRED in steam as she was about to work a charter train.

Despite the pouring rain I managed a few pictures and if anyone would like to see them, this is the first one in the Flickr Photostream :

Alternatively, they can be found in this album :

Hope that they are of interest.

There was a photo charter organised by David Williams held with Winifred last Friday as well:

The loco really does look superb in its current cosmetic form.

Gosh! Sunshine! It was pouring with rain on the previous Friday.

As you say, her current original quarry condition is quite a sight. Probably unique. (Prove me wrong someone.) It quite took me back to my visits to the quarries at Penrhyn and Dinorwic in the early 1960s.

Ron, always a delight to see your photos, these of "Winifred" are s0 very much "North Wales", I think that the prevailing weather had something to do with that!! As you say tho', the loco in that condition is a trip back in time.

Ian, your pictures are evocative of something so long gone , it's hard to believe that they were taken so recently, I dearly wish that I had participated in this particular photo shoot. I hope that the loco is kept in this condition for a while longer, it is something that I must see. Many thanks for sharing and well done chaps.

    Cheers

    Alan

Yes, we were rather fortunate with the weather in the end - although it did cloud over a bit later in the day.

It really is worth seeing whilst it's still in the current form.
    Lovely IMHO.

She's in steam already? Seems like yesterday she was on the truck in the line-up at the Ffestiniog.

Here she is back at her launch in April. Really worth seeing this year; she will be repainted at the end of the season.

The driver told me that she would have to be re-painted, which is a shame, but even if the quarries were still working with little engines they would have re-painted WINIFRED by now!

But time is running out if you want to see her as she used to be. You have been warned...
