Hey all, first post here and so not 100% if this is in the right place.

I am in the market for new set of footplate kit (jacket and bib and brace) and would like your opinions as to whether I should go for the cheaper NYMR stuff or the slightly more expensive stuff from Footplate Equipment - ie is it worth the extra? I have a set of the NYMR stuff now and it's never given me any problems, however opinions would be welcome.

    Regards
    S@S

The army surplus store on Comberton Hill, Kidderminster, just down from the SVR is where I find my cotton bib & brace, but I'd advise a personal visit to ensure that sizing is right for you.

Never used Beesley, but the NYMR ones that I have used are still in excellent condition after 6-10 uses per month for a good few years, and I tend to wear my bib and brace for prep as well, rather than a separate boilersuit. Definitely a satisfied customer, and the delivery is very good as well.

Thanks both for the replies. Swaying then back towards the NYMR ones, as they're what I have now. And the price difference helps a bit...

I use NYMR overalls and have been very happy with them, both quality and speed of delivery.

Beesley retired some time ago and the business is now run by an NYMR footplateman so there is a bit of friendly rivalry between the two! I've two pairs of NYMR and one pair of Footplate Equipment of varying age. The Footplate Equipment ones are more authentic in style and good quality but quite often tend to take on an orange tint as the die fades through washing. This can be overcome by re-dying, though. The NYMR ones don't suffer this but I don't like the collars on the NYMR jackets. They tend to take on a crease where it shouldn't be and then don't sit properly.

My Beesleys, at nearly ten years old, have acquired a definite purplish tint due to the original red showing through after many washings, haven't tried re-dying them but as the cuffs are starting to fray they will probably be relegated and a new pair obtained. I am going to try the NYMR ones this time though.

I have both a set of NYMR bib and brace and footplate eq. trousers and jacket. I find the the "cut" of the footplate eq. set to be higher quality and the material seems to be a bit thicker (also find that the collar on the jacket folds in an odd place as mentioned in an earlier post). Although my F.E set is washing out to a purple/pink colour, the NYMR set is also doing the same but in patches.
