Managed to wheedle myself a brake van ride during our gala, much more exciting than a mk1, especially through the tunnel! Not sure about a cattle wagon though...

As I said, watch this place, there are plans afoot........

Personally, I'd rather ride in the QMB! :)

It doesn't make any difference which way the loco is pointing. Going toward Alton the gradient is 1:60 most of the way from Ropley to M4M, then 1:200 through the station then 1:80 to the summit where it immediately becomes 1:60 down. Going the other way the change from 1:60 up to 1:80 down feels equally sudden. Either way you simply need to be very careful.

Looking at the roster for War on the Line on the 21st/22nd June we currently have an all SR line up with 850, 925 and 34007 on the three train service.
I wonder will 34007 become a BoB again as it is the Battle Of Britain 75th Anniversary this year?

Also, the railway will be busy this Saturday due to the incoming Uk railtour http://www.ukrailtours.com/product/the-alpine-sunbeam/ with two 73's (sadly not BR Standard Class 5's!)
Had hoped to go on it but standard class sold out before I knew I could go on it.

Here are 3 of my pictures of the UK Railtours Alpine Sunbeam Charter which visited the MHR today. The pictures are around Aldershot (didn't have time to get down to the MHR).
Green Lane.jpg 73136 & 73128 head the charter past Green Lane, between Farnham and Aldershot.
Eggars Hill 1.jpg 66752 heads the charter back up the hill to Aldershot with the Class 73's trailing on the rear.............
    Eggars Hill 2.jpg

Did anyone get any shots on the MHR?
Very appropriate nameplates on the grey 73: OVS Bulleid .

Thanks Lee. Very happy with the first shot. The sun failed to come out for the return run after the perfect conditions for the outward run.

That explains that mystery I saw her at Eastleigh on the way to work on CanPac on Wednesday. I was wondering why she was there but I did enjoy seeing a loco named after a man whilst on the way to work on one of his locos. ImageUploadedByTapatalk1433614796.035543.jpg

I was around today but didn't know about the railtour, so no pictures.

Here is another shot of the new building at Ropley, taken tonight as the RAT departs.....on an embarrassing note, Wadebridge was in the yard clearly facing Alton! The low loader was definitely pointing her towards Winchester on Tuesday morning when I passed on my way to work, I assume they must have turned the lorry round at the behest of Mr Chambers. Sorry for the duff info

I was coming back from my local Sainsburys and saw 2 Class 73's bring a railtour through Haywards Heath. It seems this was the tour. It was a bit of a surprise as I had no idea about it, but then I only look out for the steam ones.

    I got these three yesterday.
Incidentally, 73128 carried those nameplates in 1991. It was named as part of the celebrations to mark 150 years of the Brighton Line. 73101 was turned out in Pullman Livery at the same time. View attachment 14035 View attachment 14035 View attachment 14036 View attachment 14037

I've no idea what happened there. I seem to have got that upside down, but you can see the pictures, hopefully.

You beat me to posting a shot of 92212 today - Flickr is playing up...
Lion was load 6 (the RAT stock), Nellie was load 6 (The Countryman stock) but 92212 was only 4.
Was this to allow a gentle running in following this winter's work I wonder?
She did sound in fine form.

Yep, the GCR, and possibly to be renumbered & weathered for some charters.

They'll probably paint it green with a copper-capped chimney and call it "Hampshire Star"...
