It was mentioned sometime ago in one of the magazines, that she would be double heading with 60007 from Edinburgh to York, and then solo to Kings Cross on the 7th.

That does rather beg a few questions. With Mayflower, the total load would have to be a max of 10 and that will hopefully allow the 0955 departure from Waterloo to be from one of the main line (rather than Windsor Line) platforms. That said, how they handle the diesel leg will be the next question. If the diesel appears just for the Weymouth to Soton leg then fine and there will be no need to turn the B1 as it will head home via Laverstock. However if it is in the consist from Waterloo then sadly that will mean it will not be able to carry the dead weight and the day will be diesel assisted. I hope that this detail is made explicit to the potential SD punters well in advance as that will allow people to make their own mind up about whether to travel or not.

I have to say that the 'July 9th element' already has the edge taken off it unless something clever is attempted in combination with the RTC trip to the same destination. For example, the diesel goes with the first one down (with the RTC), carries out the Weymouth - Soton leg with that train home and then returns to Weymouth to come back with the SD train. At least that day, each train will get one leg of pure steam.

Possibly one of those 'too difficult' ideas though!

Hopefully 33012 from the Swanage Railway is available. While it has been used on the return to Southampton for trips to Swanage like http://www.47soton.co.uk/2014/06/33012-44932-swanage-belle-4th-june-2014.html, I cannot remember if it has been used on Weymouth trips.

I saw that too Paul but wondered if this was still happening as planned due to the situation with 60007 (being stuck at the NYMR).

I will book the day off work this week but can't decide which trip to book at the moment. I would prefer the SD run with 61306 but the 'diesel factor' is hovering over it at the moment.
I had enough of that last year with 44932 getting shoved along most the day.

I cant think of a less appropriate engine. Won't be on this one but may do the RTC trip

Steady on Don you have quoted me three times!

I wonder if 34067 will be available for the RTC run as 61306 is now replacing 34067 on the Cotswold Venturer trip this Saturday. Problems with 34067?

    No now he hasn't. Ralph.

The joys of posting from a mobile phone!

Maybe 34067 is having some mods post WB incident?

Not any more. No longer Mayflower. No Longer Steam. No Longer Kingswear (Minehead now). Call received today to advise us of the changes. Not what we wanted to hear after going a weekend of personal turmoil for me and dad.

Why bother at all. I am very loath to book anything in advance with SD or RTC now until things have settled down. Stick to those I trust like UKRT, TORBEX and VTR

Not an option. We can't afford to take the financial hit for a no show, and after recent events me and dad need something to look forward to, even if it is now Minehead.

I find it hard to believe that SD would not have to give you a full refund on this if you asked. To run to a totally different destination.as well as being diesel hauled, well surely that is not in any way what you booked. Supposing you had booked to Kingswear to meet friends or something like that,it could have been the whole point of your trip? The T&C's regarding no refund if diesel substitution are to cover things like fire risk, failed FTR's and so on,this does not sound like that at all.

    Pathing to blame,
    From the SD site.
This trip will now will be diesel hauled throughout and terminate at Minehead due to pathing difficulties.

We did, but the T&Cs allow them to amend or cancel any part of the tour, and we still want (and need) a day out. We don't have the energy to argue after the weekend either.

We are loyal followers of SD, having seen them originally as an extension (due to how they started out) of Daylight Railtours, often staffed by friends from the MHR, but recent years have seen us grow out of patience (me moreso than Dad I hasten to add - and its his money that does the talking for these things,).

I agree. I think that the terms and conditions of any train journey are that the TOC will get you from your starting point to your destination....by any means. So that's how rail replacement buses are seen as ok. Your contract with SD is to be taken to Kingswear and not Minehead. So I would also be surprised if they were not obliged to give you a full refund were you to ask.

It's Monday. I assume that today is the day that NR works out the path only to discover that there isn't one. I have to say that if you look at the convoluted route that this trip was taking, it's hardly surprising that there is a problem. Another example of when it would help if NR did this critical stuff much earlier.

I was booked on an SD trip some years ago to Manchester via the Hope Valley behind 70013, and due to a last minute gauging issue the destination changed to Sheffield, so I asked for and got a transfer to a trip to Lincoln at few weeks later. When my mum and sister heard I was going to Lincoln they decided to come too.

I remember someone posting on here had bookd their first trip with Steam Dreamswhich was a London to Shrewsbury trip. They were only going as far as Hereford, and because Tornado was unavailable and the King sbstituted the steam section was reduced to Bristol Parkway to Shrewsbury. They were disappointed to say the least, but reported some days later Steam Dreams had contacted them and they had transfered to another trip.
