The suggestion to ask the GCR for an accommodation list was the most helpful, apart from recommendations for specific places.
The Sunnyside isn't on the railway's list....

GCR "Santa" trains start the last weekend of November and then run right up to Christmas; given the choice this is the one time of the year I would avoid as the trains are all pre-booked. Of course there are still dining trains, so there will be something you can experience but you won't see the line at it's best.

A very good point. Once the "Last Hurrah" mini-gala is over (21/22 November) there will be just the Santa Specials and Santa Deluxe services at weekends, plus Wednesdays 9 and 16 December, and Monday to Thursday in the week before Christmas. Dining services on Saturday and Sunday lunchtimes and Saturday evenings, and the (announced this afternoon) Christmas Murder Mystery on the evening of Wednesday 16th December. Everything (Santa and Dining) needs to be prebooked and usually sells out. No access to station platforms at Quorn, Rothley, or Leicester North at all from 23 November until regular passenger services restart on December 26th.

If I read OP's post correctly, he says he is coming next year, so the dates will be different.

The OP's post is confusing - why would he have chosen now where to stay for November 2016, assuming that's what he means? It isn't even possible to book flights (other than those linked to package holidays so with accommodation included) so far in the future.

    Hi,

I used to spend a lot of time in Loughborough and work there occasionally now, if you like curries the 'Taste of India' curryhouse has always been decent food and good value. 'The Priory' pub in Nanpantan used to be very good for Steaks etc. but unfortunately I believe has changed hands, and i don't know what its like any more.

For accommodation, I have managed to stay a few nights at 'The Cedars' with work, the place itself is 'OK' however if you get a room at the back you are overlooking the GCR.

    Chris

    Same general pattern every year.

  9. You can always rely on a railway forum to have a sense of humour failure (sigh)

I was helpful, I just stuck my tongue in my cheek at the end. If the OP is so thick skinned as to fall for that old chestnut, I'm not sure how he would have survived high school, let alone braving the perils of crossing the Atlantic in a flying metal sausage and looking right instead of left when crossing the road in big bad Blighty!

Which is precisely what I said...
    Thank you. Me too.
