82045 The way ahead?

Barbara: Have you any indication as to when the loco--presumably sitting on at least the driving wheels--can be admitted to the shed? Hopefully before another winter?

While its great for 82045 when she does get moved to the undercover shed, its quite sad in terms of not being able to see the great progress everytime i visit. I hope you put down a plaque with "80245 was ere..."

 

blimey, so it's all been just a front for the 91 standard 4s they've built! All this time, the strategic steam reserve's been taking shape in Bridgnorth...

 

We have no idea yet Rob. It certainly won`t be inside this coming winter. The wheels will be delivered when the SVR`s timetable allows us to use the steam crane without blocking operations - this coming winter. There are some bad times weather -wise but 82045 is in full view at the moment which has some advantages.

 

Didnt you know about the secret subterrenen roundhouse in Bridnorth tunnel? Oh crap I've said too mu.....

 

No room, mate, it's full up with the strategic reserve!

Barbara: When the loco is "inside", maybe take a cue from the group restoring a WC pacific at Loughborough. Every month or so at the weekend they organise conducted tours of the Loughborough shed/works, for a fee of course, and raise useful funds for their loco. Presumably the group take on stewarding duties on the day. Just a thought....

A quick plug for the 84030 group's latest newsletter at the Bluebell, but germane as close working with the 82045 group continues. In particular, illustrated are two sets of swing links for the trailing truck, one set for 84030 and one set for 82045. Also the hind truck frame casting has been delivered; a second identical casting has been ordered by the 82045 group, with pattern making costs shared between the two projects.

Barbara, have you ever thought about posting this in 'things that cheer me up'?! Every time I read these updates I end up with a big broad grin on my face

 

Very good progress indeed, though I can't help but chuckle to myself in thinking their statement of "Practical Steam for the 21st Century" is a bit of a innocent jab at the other new builds out there, certainly I don't think I could argue with that opinion as most of them technically aren't (with a couple exceptions).

 

Perhaps the most significant piece of news was that work is soon to start on the firebox and boiler barrel in the Bridgnorth boiler shop.

I wonder if any flanging blocks to be made to form the new firebox will find a dual use or adaptation for the new firebox to be built for the Worth Valley Ivatt? I appreciate that 82045's firebox will be larger than that for the cl 2 Ivatt, but the general shape in terms of "corners"will be very similar.
