Sort of, he sweetened us up with mini flapjacks which meant our tea break took longer ;-). In all seriousness work is progressing nicely as you can see from the photo we have almost finished cleaning and i for one am flipping glad of that.

go nicely with 925 and 850 then you would have the imediate pre war livery and the post 1945 livery 850 is in the livery just before Malachite was chosen i believe , parson's green isnt it?

I would've thought authenticity would be the main reason?

Well 35006 has a class 33 wheel set for its tender as well and I always assumed it was something to do with mainline running so wonder if that was the reason behind Wadebridges original wheel set as well.

It's cheaper/quicker/easier to acquire some class 33 wheelsets rather than go to the trouble of casting new BFB wheels, acquiring tyres, making new axles and all the associated machining, pressing etc. I don't think mainline running comes into the equation.

Absolutely agree. The option for BFB wheelsets was taken for authenticity AFAIK. I think the MHR either had a pattern made or borrowed the one Southern locomotives possess.
I do remember seeing a gas axed BFB tender wheel laying on the ground outside Ropley shed many years back, so maybe this was used as a basis for a pattern.
34058 I believe has a full set of BFB wheelsets made and stored awaiting the turn of its rebuild.

Are you sure that they're class 33 wheels? I seem to remember seeing the tender chassis when it was being built at Cammel Lairds (under a MSC scheme IIRC), and being told that they were class 40 wheelsets. Not that it really makes much difference.

You could well be right. When 35006 returns to steam we can have a snoop hopefully it won't be long :)

The big question is who will be done first 05 or 28.

All I know is that the wheeles are off of the exact loco from the great train robbery. At this point I can only mumble about "green ones" and "blue ones" and gently doze off...
