Llangollen for the first SSS in 2008/2009 I believe. 61306 was in LNER livery, 46100 in LMS pink/maroon.

I note 46100 has a tender full of coal, as well as looking pretty much complete (I think I read in Steam Railway a couple of months ago that the bottom half of 46100 was ready to go/as finished as you can be without the boiler in the frames), so hopefully it means her first movements aren't a million miles off! :)

What is that box on the back, a header tank like the Duchess or GSMR related ?.

I'd like to hope that some of the abovementioned 4-6-0s will spread their wings a bit more than 45690, 45699 and 46115 have done recently. It is natural for a loco owner to want to see their engine run over the lines connected with its pre-preservation days but sometimes a foray into different territory can prove very popular. I live in the south east and would love to have the chance of riding behind a 3-cylinder LMS 4-6-0 without having to travel 200 or so miles to board the train. I deliberately booked on a Steam Dream trip to Oxford a few years ago because 6233 was rostered and would be delighted if Royal Scot or Bahamas (or 45551 when complete) were to come down south. As always, I guess that Kent would be out of bounds for clearance reasons, but the LSWR main lines to Bournemouth and Salisbury are reasonably accommodating and at least one Jubilee worked down the Brighton line in the 1960s.

As regards the WCR stabled examples, I suppose the first step would be to overcome NR's aversion to the afore mentioned? Within the last few years I took a trip into Kings X with the Scot and as far as I can remember she did at least one public run down there, but I agree you have been starved of 'the best' ;)for years but, until such time as Carnforth can overcome reliability issues with their 3 cyl. fleet, I cannot see them sending them 200 miles + away from their home shed, in the near future.

Oh, I'm not so sure about that. On the main line down here we've had Clan Line, Tangmere and recently Braunton, not to mention Taw Valley and Candian Pacific a few years back and briefly in 1988, City of Wells! :)
I fear you will be proved correct on this, but I'm hoping that the owners of the three engines I mentioned in my earlier post (45596, 46100 and 45551) might be more willing to spread their wings.

To be fair to 46100's main backer he seems to be quite receptive to as many people as possible to see and travel behind the machines he has an intrest in so you never know.

You don't have to plenty of trains featuring these three start at Euston and the loco joins your train 200 miles further north .

The White Rose ??? 5 years ago?? Leeds - KX, with steam, a 47 for the return. We were on it, it was a damn good day out. The scot performed well on the ECML. If only Carnforth can get just a bit more reliability into the Scot...........who knows.

With regards to 45551, we plan to send her where ever the money is. I would love to see her over the Devon banks if possible. I suppose it also depends on where your support crew are based? The Hoskins fleet has the ability of having a lot of support crew volunteers around the country so can call on them to assist with other locos on thw fleet. Individual loco owners dont have this as much so rely on their own crew to do it. If they are not willing to travel away for days the the locos wont travel that far. Hence i suppose Leander having most of its support crew from the north west it mainly does trips there. The patriot project has a lot of its main members in the midlands area. This makes travel to any which way not too bad so lets hope she will be all over the network! If we're say attending a gala at the WSR one weekend why not stay in Bristol the weekend after for a trip or two, or if we're at the mid hants follow that up with a trip or two in the south east. Etc etc etc.
I wonder how far Bahamas will travel as its main members are at the KWVR. If Kolhopur gets overhauled in the future i imagine they will use it on all the locations that the Vintage tours go on, do vintage tours to tours in the south east?? Royal Scot should be the one loco you'll see all over i would imagine from that point, lets hope she does!!!

The development of the Crewe depot too might bring greater geographical freedom to the RS&G etc fleet. Thus far, using 70000 as an example, northern duties have been sparse. Not a complaint, there is a superb array of locos on northern routes. Just greedy to see some of their south based counterparts in the fells too!
Having missed the test run of 34046 in the north it would be good to have a local opportunity again - likewise 46100 when it's recommissioned.

With 35028 and 60007 bowing out for overhauls w/46115(?) coming soon the timeliness of 46100 mainline return comes at a very important moment.

Those air brakes are going to be quite handy.

I do like the location of the air pump on 46100. Much better than where it was before. Much much easier access
