I think it is now back to 3 steam (63395, 76079 and 75029), with 60007 and 61994 back in the mix soon and 45428 in the not too distant future. 44806 and 61264 are now looking unlikely for the peak season.

Thats what the website says, but the diesel site says the 20 and 25 both out today and Friday.
Either way its better than earlier this week when 76079 and three diesels were working.

Thanks to everyone for the replies, the diesel website is particularly helpful for an easy to print timetable.

NYMR diesel now shows just the 20 for today. Also in the recorded workings, the 20 is shown as having worked yesterday, but not the 25. Hopefully this marks a turning point in the season.

I think that you must ask the owners that question. The NYMR wanted it and entered into negotiation but it was unavailable to them in the end.

I gather that the teak set has been granted an ORR derogation for use between Grosmont and Whitby. Congratulations to all LNERCA and NYMR personnel involved.

Good news. Up there for a few days at the end of September so will be a real bonus to travel in LNER style to Whitby.

This comment from the NYMR unofficial site
"There is still lots to do before this happens, so please don't expect to see them in Whitby anytime soon. "

Even 2016 might be too early; there's a lot of work to do before they can run. It is only the paperwork hurdle that has been jumped so far. No doubt 61624 can give better particulars.

Thinking long term is the plan for every coach to be registered for running to Whitby? I can see how operationally that would be useful but wondered how it stacked up against the costs really?

Each LNER Carriage will have to individually undergo a process known as engineering acceptance. The work to undertake this has not yet been quantified or indeed budgeted or scheduled.

3669 and 1623 will likely not need much effort to gain this (however 1623 being steel panelled is being treated differently to the teak panelled stock and has yet to get permission). Most of the work will be tyre turning, axle testing, brake re-bushing, door latch certification and that kind of thing. Also they will all have to have buckeyes that have lower shelf brackets fitted (quite a few already do, a fact which probably saved 43567 a few years ago!). 56856 is currently stopped for worn tyres anyway, it entered service with as turned profiles which have lasted just over a decade, such is the twisty turny nature of the NYMR, so with all the rest bar the buffet car entering service shortly after 56856 I expect quite a few wheelsets will need turning. There is a degree of nervousness as to how the wheelsets will perform when MPI tested. Buffet Car 641, having being in service on the NYMR for over twenty years is in need of underframe repairs, which will need the body lifting clear of the underframe (this has already happened on 43567 and 3669 so holds no terrors).

The only reason the speed is being limited to 25mph is to avoid fitting secondary door locking and the resulting damage to doors from strong arm passengers used to sticking doors!

On the peak timetable there is now only one non Whitby round trip diagramed per day. If we have five sets of seven carriages all passed for Whitby, it would allow them to be rotated, with a different set out of use each day for maintenance and examination, leading to a reduction of staff travelling time from Pickering to Grosmont to carry out FTR exams.

61994 was apparently out on test today after motion repairs, and 45428 really can't be too far away either, so the fleet looks to be on the brink of numbering 6!

    Wishful thinking?

Can only muster two today instead of the four booked.
Every day is a diesel gala.

61994 did another test run today, piloting 20142 on 1330 Grosmont-Pickering. Returning on the 1500 with the 20 assisting from the rear.
Even the DMU was out today vice loco hauled on 1100 Pickering, 1230 Grosmont, 1400 Pickering and 1540 Grosmont.

Tomorrow again only 75029 and 63395 in service. Interestingly the DMU is only working 1300 Pickering and 1500 return from Grosmont.
    0945 Goathland-Grosmont, 1120 Grosmont-Pickering and 1700 Pickering-Goathland all caped !!

45428 now back in service, meaning only 44806 and 61264 now missing from the annticipated summer lineup. On another note, 20189 has done a few trips in the last few days, so hopefully d7628 will be able to have some time off having worked almost everyday since the start of daily running!

D7628 has been a very useful loco to have, being passed for Whitby. But are any on the other diesels able to work to Whitby?
