Thing is, you'd only fit an air-pump to a working loco, and a mainline one at that. I'd much rather have a working loco, on the mainline, with an air-pump than a static one without, where-ever the pump is fitted.

I have not been this excited about the steam scene in a long time. It has been a long time coming in getting Royal Scot in operation and out on the mainline in the very near future.

    Cheers

At the mo mike if what @jtx is hinting at Im gonna be seriously excited! I've mentioned what Id like to see crossing the severn. But I've just remembered theres a a rake of stock with roof boards bearing 46100's name at the same railway. Or am I putting 2+2 together and making 5?

Take a look at my signature with the list of locos and that is how excited I am.

Red 'uns or Green 'uns? You do seem rather excited by both! I really cant wait to see 46100 and 60103 in steam. We are very lucky to have what we have here in the UK. Its also nice we Always seem to have some stuff to look forward to too.

Do you mean this announcement on the Icons Of Steam website: http://www.iconsofsteam.com/locos/royal-scot/return-to-steam/ ? Very good news, both for 6100 and the SVR. It might even up-stage Tornado's appearance in October.

Good to see that there will be some running it at Crewe and then on SVR before the big launch at the Autumn Gala. I always get worried when people promise a return to service for a particular date. I'm sure it won't take as long to bed-in as, say, Braunton, but I bet there'll be a few snags.

Particularly sensible approach by Mr Hosking's people. The SVR visit will see a reasonable period of LE and loaded running to iron out any snags, wheel drop at Bridgnorth if required--hopefully not!
To my mind much better than one test run on NR and then quickly off into railtour service. (No comparison intended with any other organisation....)
Should ensure a reliable loco when let loose on the big railway.

Bit surprised she's going from Crewe to the SVR by road. Thought after some initial running up and down the depot yard if things looked OK that they might have got a dispensation to tow her slowly by rail.

Its quite possibly cheaper to go by road.

Yes I seem to remember this being the case before, kind of ironic really isn't it that it costs less to stick it on a low loader.

Would have thought there was more than cost in it as there's the possibility of damage being caused loading and unloading a heavy loco. Hope it all goes well.

Lets hope the low loader trip goes better than the one to Bishops Lydeard did a few years ago.

When Network Rail struggle to get a path from Washwood Heath to Kiddy with a loco convoy how do you think a slow speed tow would get on?!:)
