That's the problem - she ain't ML registered - yet!

Otherwise she's be home by now. so.......... I for one have no idea how long the agreement is that she'll be at the ELR, that may mean there's a chance she may come South (fingers crossed)..........

Surely they could fit the necessary kit at Bury with assistance/guidance from Ian Riley? Kill two birds with one stone etc. I read somewhere that she was supposed to be leaving the ELR by rail anyway before the road situation arose at the KWVR.

anything can come mainline without a mainline ticket, provided it is being towed , so pop a 37 on the front and bobs your uncle.

So why's that not happening with the U Boat & SKP then, considering both lines they are on are ML connected?........

Perhaps owners don't want to go through the ultrasonic testing they need for a main line tow?

Don't think it's as simple as that. IIRC a degree of ultrasonic retesting is needed first.

Presume this will affect outgoing moves too and thus no Coal Tank for NVR Gala?

It MIGHT be alright as it's a smaller tank engine and thus lighter. Anyone know what the weight restriction is?

I understand it is a weight limit on a road bridge - hence, the all up weight of the the heavy haulage rig and weight per axle is the issue. A smaller loco such as the Coal Tank on the right multi-axle trailer may be okay but also may not! (Coal tank 43 tonnes according to Wikipedia - suspect the loco of a U Class is more than that but @Jamessquared will no doubt have the info to hand!)

Well, if 73096 can go from the MHR to Southall ML, then there should be no problem with 31806........ same owner, different loco's..............

A bit more than that - about 63 tons in working order for the loco alone. There are subtle differences between the K class rebuilds (like 1806) and the genuine U class locos, but probably not enough to be significant in that context.

Perhaps the KWVR budget won't cover a road move and a mainline tow(and associated inspections) each way for each loco....

I think the issue with towing engines on the mainline is that they need to have be ultra sound tested (think that's the right phrase anyway). That's not to say that something won't be arranged for Wells, but that will come in time.

As for the coal tank going out I believe it's stuck there. Think the restriction is 44 tons (including the weight of the trailer taking the load).

KWVR are looking at plan B and plan C and no doubt will come up with something - bit of a waiting game at the moment for now.

Also it's Swanage Railway that decides what 31806 does or doesn't do, not the owner, although I'm sure they will let him know!

Rail moves would be costly , possibly more than by road , loco's need ultrasonic testing of the axles and if not in steam some motion dismantling . Finding paths maybe tricky as speed would be limited . I suspect owners / railways may also not want the risk of a hot box as we saw with 60009 and the additional cost of a road recovery

Very strange running agreement if the loco owner has no say in what happens to their pride and joy.

But isn't that exactly the case when they were leased to to the MHR?

No idea. Just seems odd that a loco owner would hand over all control to a third party.

I asked about the Coal tank on the KWVR page yesterday. I said "i take it that coal tank cant leave either" and the message back was "correct". Meaning the coal tank is going to miss the Nene valley gala, the Tyseley open weekend in October and also its appearence at the Warley model show if its not sorted by then. Really feel for the KWVR.

Why? He probably gets a nice pay off and they do all the running repairs free of charge for him.
