Excellent news. Hopefully there will soon be some info about the share issue. I'd like to contribute. With 35006 having passed its steam test and the announcement that 3850 is going to work its final months before withdrawal for overhaul on the GWSR, tbe Broadway station roof news is this icing on the cake - a thoroughly good week for the railway.

I believe the next share issue launch will be early 2016, so as to leave a decent gap between the bridges one. I'm sure in the meantime the BAG would be delighted with a donation towards rebuilding the station.

Well, you know the old saying, 'better late than never'. Definitely applies here, methinks.

12 of the 14 windows have now gone in.

So glad that stout Broadway supporters coughed up the necessary to ensure that they were hard wood and not plastic as was intended. They look magnificent.

Is the public viewing platform open all the time, or only on a working day, ie Wednesday?

    Thanks in advance.

    Thanks Breva, Wednesday it is..

Just out of interest is the station building getting traditional footings, rather than a concrete slab like went under the signal box, after piling, I think?

From where I'm sitting looking at the photo in Breva's post, it looks like deep footings as per the traditional style.

BTW My apologies about using the expression, "from where I'm sitting" which is not intended to be taken as derogatory. Unfortunately, I tend to associate it with a sarcastic rollocking being given to me by a senior officer, as did happen once or twice! I tended to agree with him/her of course but couldn't help thinking, "well you might be sitting sir/ma'am but I'm having to chuffing well stand and put up with this guff!"

The signal box had a concrete slab on top of piling, necessary because of the made up ground. We don't want it to fall over backwards, do we? Look at the old pictures of Broadway platform 2, and see what happened to the running in board.

I'm not really sure what you mean by traditional footings. The GWR foundations were about 1ft deep, ours will be deeper than that. In the end, it's the building inspector who needs to be satisfied. With the new building being longer because of the need for extra toilets, some of the new building will be further south, more towards the made up ground area.

Thanks Breva. I did mean "traditional foundations" , bad choice of words!

I can see now from the latest update that it is indeed "foundations" rather than a slab. Difference in the underlying ground I suppose, as you mentioned in respect of the signalbox.

Progress on site as ever is impressive.

Second day of foundations work, with the first two concrete pours. More tomorrow, and things are going according to plan. In the picture is the future kitchen area.

Third day, we're just over half way now, with the areas around the refreshment room and booking office completed.
    More tomorrow and Friday.
There's a video of the concrete pour here:

Article in today's SR about the redesign of the station building. Along with the windows for the 'box it's heart-warming to see the whole job now being implemented in a style sympathetic to the original. Well done to everyone who fought so hard to get this result.

It may just be the angle of the shot but I can't see any re-inforcing steel in the trenches ?
