How about the Knotty Heritage Train on the Foxfield Railway ?

I'll admit it is not in daily service ... and I'm biased in favour having had *something* to do with them; leaving aside the slight matter of the "Shark" which will be in use until the Accessible Brake is available. (I'm sure that donations for this project, to the Knotty Coach Trust, will be gratefully rec'd).

I'd recomend the quads on the NNR, I've mentioned the LMS set at SVR as a personal favorite. But I have to say the Nene Valleys Wagons Lits set is a absolute Stunner! If like me your a bit of a connesuier of Buffet Cars I have to say the Thompson Buffet Car at Llan is lovely! Come the revolution and I'll be having that as my support coach for whatever engine I end up owning! :)

KWVR as said before has the LYR Set, which is hoped to have a 6 wheeled first, 6 wheeled third, a club Car and a bogie brake by the end of the year.

On the line there is also a LYR Saloon Carriage (however this is sometimes kept out of sight).

Don't forget the famous LNER Saloon from the Railway Children, the 2 Pullman Carriages, the Met coaches from the Vintage Carriage trust and the 'southern coaches also based there along with a collection of other regional carriages.

The KESR usually has the Vintage Set out, hauled either by a Terrier or the Norwegian, at present. It is worth checking, though, as recently two mk1's have deputised behind the Terrier for the "Hayling Island" look....

It occurred to me that if you might a Mark 1 on the IOW, the mainline service would get jealous.

I suspect that Island Line might be jealous of the current IOWSR stock :)

Slightly biased but when I used to be able to get the train to the SVR I always thought the LMS set was far better than the 150 that got me there!

It's probably the nicest to ride on though to work it's a bit of a pain, particulary in winter as the LMS drain valves aren't so user friendly when compared to Mark 1 and LNER ones.

At the Moors we've already had the green 4-6-0 on the front of our teak set. On one trip we had it's black twin on the back too. Sticking my head out a droplight half way along the set going up the bank to Goathland, it was like listening in stereo! :)

i would cetainly pay to travel on your vintage stock, topped and tailed by 24 and 41298 between St Johns and Shanklin , so i imagine would 99.9 others on here, the .1 would be Paul Hitch, :)

At the Dartmouth Steam Railway we have Mrk 1s but also DMU 116/117 trailers, we use these in mixed sets with the Mrk 1s during the summer/peak season. Normally 3 DMU and 4 Mrk 1s in one set (7). We also have one of the Devon Belle Pullman Observation saloons (No.13) which is used everyday during the main running season and takes the place of a DMU in one of the sets.

Embassy use Stephen Middleton's "Stately Trains" carriages throughout the year.

    http://www.statelytrains.com

Normally one of the L&Y or LNWR Inspection Saloons is attached to the Mk1 service set with a supplement required to travel onboard.
Then on selected days the collection of 6-wheelers are also in use (At present there is only the 2x GER ones, as the GNSR is in use for the Railway Children production at Kings Cross IIRC).

Actually, the encouraging fact is that more and more pre-Mk 1 stock is being restored and there are very few black spots where nothing but Mk 1s are available. Hopefully the situation will just continue to get better and better!
