As long as one of their restored sets of GWR coaches come as well, and they forget to have them sent back I will be very happy. :D:);)

    Dont forget 4160.

Could this be the first WSR gala where every loco has only four digits?

Only the best engines carried four digits numbers in BR days, and no letters as part of the number as well. :Resistanceisfutile:

Sorry to drift off, but why did western region engines never get a prefix number as with the Southern (3) LMS (4) and LNER (6)? I believe 3850 is arriving at the GWSR mid September and should be operating right up to the end of her ticket at the end of September.

As far as I know it was down to those cast number plates that the GWR used.

Western locos, or to be more specific, ex-GWR locos and locos absorbed into GWR ownership were fitted with brass or cast iron cabside plates so it was perhaps logical to start the BR sequence from 1 to 9999 with GWR loco stock. Of course, many pre-grouping railway companies did this but I believe that only the GWR did so after grouping. (Some Southern Railway locos also carried cabside plates however and there are probably other examples too.)

Not the first time. I remember 75069 being on loan for the season, 1994 IIRC, it developed a fault so 7802 was dispatched. 75069 was promptly fixed and then both were used on the steam service. Spent a week running the entire service together so although a different railway the motive power was pure SVR!

I don't really buy that argument. In the grand scheme of things, the cost of removing a cast numberplate and painting on a replacement would have been trivial, especially as a bit of money could have been recovered by either melting them down or (potentially) selling them on. Even more so given that Swindon did go to the additional expense of adding cast smokebox numbers ...

Far more likely I suspect that it was just Swindon exceptionalism, akin to sticking two fingers up to Derby. Pretty harmless in that particular case, but financially far more serious when it came to running an entirely non-standard dieselisation policy.

Hoping for large guest loco. A big name.

  13. I remember both engines as being excellent performers that Summer. Bradley Manor was (unusually for the time) smokebox facing Taunton and was (I think) the first Manor to operate on WSR. We had some wonderful evening QB workings with her that left us really looking forward to Dinmore Manor's arrival on the line the following season.

The Western Regions diesels were not non-standard; everyone else's were :)

The streaming BL camera is displaying a message that it is off line at 1830 13/8/15

  17. There is an email link on each (individual) webcam page on wsr.org.uk which can be used to alert the webcam managers who usually sort problems quickly once notified. These guys (Rodders for Bishops Lydeard and Steve S for Minehead) kindly allow me to access and embed the imagery on wsr.org.uk

Geoff - I suspect the webcam PC at Bishops Lydeard has been inadvertently powered down.

Yes 7802 was the first Manor to work on the WSR & contrary to an earlier post it was hired by the WSR for the peak 1994 season in addition to 75069. The 75 failed towards the end of the season with boiler tubes. 7802 also visited in 2007 (by rail) and 2009 (by road). Withdrawn in early 2011 the overhaul of 7802 is now nearing completion.
