Son't shoot me down in flames. It is Sunday after all, a day of peace and tranquility. But, although I do like the vids of trains coming off the Chertsey loop at Byfleet, it is very difficult to offer variations on the same theme. That is to say that the vids lack variety.

A trip along the line to West Byfleet when the train is into its stride could be an alternative. Or Woking or Guildford stations where the reaction of Jo Public always amazes me.

All of this said, I do enjoy seeing your videos Mr Knowwun and did indeed see you at work at the end of Egham station a couple of years back shooting a steam special.

I am aware the scene is the same, and had the traffic not been as problematical as it was, you wouldn't have seen that same scene. however, as an historical oddity (three types of loco in less than three weeks) it happened and its captured. I wont be there for the fourth class in three weeks, as I said higher up thread it would be a waste to catch the A4 there - much better locations for that. I also have two years of regular Tornado elsewhere to film. As it happens the shot from West Byfleet is never that good, the sun is always in the wrong place, the loco is never into its stride but always merely dawdling along. (the whole Pullman Schedule is a bit of a dawdle broken up by some good hilly sections) Woking is full of planks, and impossible to get the perfect backdrop of Woking box.

Edit - And count yourself lucky that Britannia wasn't up the Byfleet bank this morning, otherwise you would really have been bored!

Shame to be 'bowled', but it was a rare 450+444 combination (whatever they might be!).

Surprising that tender-first runs don't seem to require the usual high-intensity headlight.

Maybe because they are limited to 45? mph.

I considered that, but there are three GWR 0-6-0Ts that are limited to 35/45mph on the main line that carry high intensity headlights, as far as I am aware.

Both trains filmed at Chilworth, accelerating away from the water stop at Shalford.

    And the winner is?

Nice video merge, but it's not possible to select a winner without knowing how hard each was being driven. It looked as if 'Tornado' was ambling a bit, but it does have a much higher nominal tractive effort.

The sound of both tells you that Clan Line was being pushed a bit harder but I have to say that I'm quite surprised at the difference in speed at this point. Count how many coaches are still to pass the crossing after the last one has gone by on Clan Line's train. I reckon that Clan Line was 5 mph faster at this point.

Or maybe it was the driver's first time on Tornado so was taking thing's a little easier than he normally would be on Clan Line, as the video shows. Jim Clarke in the seat maybe??
