I even have my own concerns about the maintenance levels for when 35018 hits the rails.

The A4's performance was spectacular by the way.

i would hope that any loco is maintained to the highest standard, so how does West coast ensure that any loco on its books are maintained when away from base? is there a laid down schedule? or do each loco owner set their own methods of recording data from when wash outs , inspections are carried out ?
i do not wish to inadvertently step into hot water and have re written my post to better reflect what it was i was trying to ask if anyone thinks i have libelled anyone, it was not intentional , and due to poor choice of words , as i have explained previously i do have certain problems that can make me sometimes get my words mixed up, and they can come out differently than intended .

Be interesting to also know when the axles were last weighed/balanced and set given it is a class of loco with a reputation for slipping therefore that setting is even more critical then usual. However that is data I don't expect to be made public. Helped do it twice many moons ago on the K1 when assisting as a NELPG volunteer (Once at Grosmont once at Carnforth) but I expect these days there is more modern kit than the old fashioned balances we used back then (very early '80s) on loan from the SVR.

Having read your speculation on the WSRA thread, I now see it coming across to The Duchy. Would like to know what the evidence is that you have for the above given that you have just posted something on a public site.

Given what happened earlier in the year I very much doubt there is currently any slackness in adherence to documented processes or divergence from industry acceptable operating practices.

What may be occurring is that unexpected and unpredictable faults are cropping up due to age and accumulated mileage as Tangmere is the only un-rebuilt to be regularly running fast heavy loads on the main-line and since 1967 only C of W has done anything similar. There are others running true but only at 25mph max off the mainline so not getting the same working conditions. As the many aircraft disaster programmes on TV identify things do crop up unexpectedly, even in that most regulated of industries, so it would not be unreasonable to think similar scenarios of the unpredictable may occur running a 58 year old, unorthodox (and one-off at 60mph) loco type with around 3/4 million miles on the clock.

So do they consider Martin1656 to have committed libel, or not?

    Ah, I understand.

There is reality, and there are trainspotter Internet forums.

But direct accusations about companies are risky places to go without facts. Trainspotter internet forums have no less immunity than your daily newspaper.

The age and mileage of vintage locomotives are irrelevant. However, the maintenance of vintage machinery, especially if slightly idiosyncratic, obviously presents engineering challenges. I know little about contemporary mainline steam locomotive engineering practice and cannot judge how these challenges are met.

The frame stresses on Flying Scotsman as just one example are according to reports mileage related, (albeit exacerbated by other factors) and similar faults have arisen on other classes.

The point I was trying to make is these locomotives are working in territory of mileage etc., that is unknown. I was not suggesting engineers are cutting corners but that if ?? fault is going to arise and start to show only after 1M miles of use they aren't going to know that until a loco in the class reaches that many miles. The expected will be looked for, the predictable looked and tested for, the unexpected may still happen.

Wow that's something of a leap to make, so you have concerns regarding the maintenance levels for a locomotive that is not even restored yet or operational..

Pray tell what is the evidence you use for making such a statement as I am sure WCRC would be interested to know.

British libel laws are a restriction on freedom of speech, and many US states will not enforce British court awards because the British system is so unfair and hysterical. So, mike1522 can probably relax!

So you'd be happy for someone to make completely false allegations about you on a public forum and you'd see that as them exercising free speech?
