Yes you were fortunate with the weather, I did one from the other side many moons ago, in much poorer conditions,no walking involved, I was 2 feet from the car!!!

 

I suspect this is part of the "new regime" that first WCRC then other operators will be expected to follow. IIRC Vintage Trains has already been criticised for now adhering to the new policy but since it operates under the WCRC Safety Case I presume that the imposition will apply to Tyseley's main line operations also.

 

Not sure if it something new or not but the steward in our coach did mention that with all that had gone on no window hanging was a part of keeping their operating licence .

 

I thought I'd try a new location after the last time at St Helens Central when there was a lot of ambient noise, so this is Thatto Heath and it provides a good long view and the incline means the loco gives some good sounds.

 

15th August running 15 late up Hoghton bank. 46233 with no diesel on rear.

 

4.50am start today to catch the Duchess charging through Goostrey, as it heads to Manchester.

 

Well worth the early rise for Liam, I did the same earlier this year at Goostrey; as you have shown, a wee bit of that all illusive "atmosphere" here, also, it's great to have the place to yourself. Many thanks for sharing. Cheers, Alan

Having sat in full sun for hours, just at the magic moment clouds bubble up as LMS 8P Class 4-6-2 No. 46233 'Duchess of Sutherland' works through Great Strickland with the return leg of the 'Cumbrian Mountain Express'

 

FINALLY caught her in sunshine as she purred along the WCML @ Woodacre. Nice weather, nice sight and some good company with fellow linesiders
