Lots of good sense there. A4s of course were well known for middle big end problems and this us an area where maintenance cannot be neglected. Lets hope it's sorted soon as I think there is already a shortage of engines for next weekend

I believe last time a loco failed at Newton Abbot it was 5029 Nunney Castle, think that was a hot bearing & ended up at DSR for repair !
Could this happen with No.9 may be.

Looks like no 9 on 5Z09 heading towards Totnes.

 

Ah well, look on the bright side, at least we get a LE movement with no9 on its own at some point! An A4 with a hot middle bearing, who'd though it.

 

SDR to may be fix then.
Must be in weight to go to Buckfastleigh !

Yes, an original Bulleid slipping to a stand, an A4 with a hot middle bearing, what next? Seems to be the train to see the UK steam fleet performing to their own exacting standards.

 

Thankfully no other train services were delayed by the failure of No. 9. <BJ>

Now need an LM loco with a cylinder cock stuck open and a GWR loco going at a speed that gets exaggerated for the next 100 years!

 

Tangmere didn't slip to a stand. It stalled. There is a difference. 60009 did not have a hot middle big end, it had a hot axle box. I am deeply sorry to all the people who paid good money for this trip.

 

Please explain what the problem was? Middle big end seems to be "flavour of the month".
