NNR S&D Theme Gala 4th-6th September 2015

My three day ticket came through this morning. Very much looking forward to it as always. This gala always seems to be blessed with great weather. I have attended for the last eight years and can't remember ever having anything more than a light shower of rain.

If you have never been to this gala then you should make the effort as it is just a little bit different to the mainstream and always has a good engine line up.

 

The Gala will only feature 7 locos in steam from the list above.

 

Are the Y14 & Y7 likely to be running as they aren't mentioned on the gala page on the website (http://www.nnrailway.co.uk/page.php?pid=5).

 

Thank you for this plug, Mr Pesmo. I've never been to the NNR. It has always been on my "to do " list and the engine line-up (especially 34007) is rather tempting, even though it's a bit of a hike for me.

My only caveat is that even if only 7 out of the 9 locos listed above are running, that's still quite a lot for a five-mile long line. For instance, the Mid Hants usually uses no more than 6 or 7 on a line 10 miles in length. The plus side of a gala on a short line, of course, is that you can fit in a ride and take some pictures all within a single day. I'd be interested to know a bit more about the planned timetable. Does one appear in advance?

When I went 2 years ago there was no timetable in advance, but someone who posted on here, let me know what was hauling the first two or three train from
Holt.
There was a photo guide on the forum which I used to find locations.There are footpaths in both directions from Weybourne station which are close to the line.

Checked the NNR Website & it looks like timetables will only be available on the day:

"Timetables
Will be available to purchase for £1 on the day."

 

At each end you can have one coming in and one going out, with one in the headshunt ready to take the next one out, plus Y7 as Weybourne pilot, there's your 7 before you even talk about double heading. It usually works pretty slickly, although any delays can accumulate

 

The other thing is the on train breakfasts are by far the best I've had on a railway and very good value.

 

Yes it works quite well. Three engines at Holt at the same time is pretty standard at this gala. Given the amount of double heading that they do along with the yard at Weybourne being in the middle of the line, the Gala timetable can be quite complicated for a 5 mile track.

 

A post by one of the gala organisers on the NNR Facebook pages says that Sir Lamiel will not be attending. 92214 will attend instead. It is stated that the plan is for both 9fs to work the evening train on the saturday.

 

I haven't seen the B12 and B1 together yet, so am definitely hoping to make it

I am tempted but not without an advance timetable. Its a very long journey for us and at best we are only going to have 5 hours there so I like to plan in advance to make best use of the time. Will probably go to Welshpool instead

CJH30003, like many here I watch a great many steam videos, sometimes 50 a week. Yours of the NNR gala is one of the finest I have ever had the pleasure of watching including professional vids. It was well shot, in particular the extra local context bits, beautifully edited and I like the different approach of just having the beautiful pastoral musical background. What an advert for this excellent gala for those who have never been, and it really is making me look forward to it again in a couple of weeks. Thank you.
