Mid Hants landslip

I had an eventful visit, my first proper one for very many years, recently. A very enjoyable day was had and I was most impressed by a neat tidy railway with lots of viewing points for the visitor. Class 37 and an 08 shunting at Alresford and a Class 11 shunting at Ropley made for extra interest.

It was a wet day, it was a VERY wet day and I was drowned. The down train after mine from Alton encountered a landslip before Medstead evidently and I think it could have been more serious than it turned out. Fortunately no harm bar having to rustle up a bus to get passengers back to A;ton ensued. See pictures of Cheltenham.

 

YOU were drowned! I was driving the thing that day and have never been on the footplate in such wet conditions. It was a tad exciting when we encountered the slip in our V class 4x4 (4-4-0), the mud came down just as we got to the site of the slip, just like the Railway Children apart from the lack of young ladies waving their underwear.
