It would not be right, Alberta was from the earlier series with short firebox boiler Galetea and Leander have long firebox boilers which were not interchangeable. Most noticeable when viewed side on, the long firebox engines(5665 onwards) had the boiler/firebox join directly over the centre driving axle.

I think Tyseley looked into fitting Galatea's boiler to Kolhapur at one point.

Sorry, but I think you are mistaken. As explained in the previous post Galatea (5699) has a 'long' firebox boiler whilst Kolhapur (5593) has a 'short' one. They are not interchangeable, IIRC, due to the position of a frame stay. I can look up the exact details if you like.

I think it could be done but not without modifying the frames. A few short firebox black 5s were so modified to speed up overhauls.

Yes, it can, but it's a one-way conversion. It cannot be reversed without again mucking about with the frame stretchers.

Sorry I didn't express myself very well. In 1998 Tyseley suggested that the Galatea Trust might 'lend' Galatea's boiler to Kolhapur. The alterations found necessary to the frames presumably made this a non-starter.

Indeed, a few Jubilees were also modified to accept sloping throat plate boilers. One interesting bit of information I found was that 45637's boiler lived on after Harrow, being fitted to other members of the Class.
It was not scrapped until 1965.

And back to the livery debate!. Look can we not just do somthing simple like ignore 45699's colour? Hard as it might be to do, lets talk about somthing else. Fingers crossed if we do that Mr Smith might do somthing else to catch our attention!

    Why not ?

It's been done before when 34027 was once painted red/ burgundy as an earlier "Hogwarts Castle" look-a-like in 2000

EWS red I believe! Personally I think it suited 34027 rather well. I think the late Mr Hitchens bank manager rather liked it too! Much as I liked it I will say the pics of TV topping Eardington with the VSOE and full Golden Arrow regelia were superb though! I do like engines in green.

More than happy for it to be in West Coast red until it proves it can perform just like a MN should. At that point I'd prefer it to be changed to the correct colour!

Provided the Carnforth team makes a good job of the overhaul, and '18 runs reliably, I won't mind what colour she is (or not very much). However, they've not had a lot of luck getting 3-cyl locos right "out of the box", so to speak.

Don't know about that ! 6115 was bang on out of the box, not overly reliable but 'on song', 5699 has been a different kettle of fish, I'll admit, but hardly surprising, given what they had to start with.

Let's face it so much of 5699 must be new it's almost a new build!

Maybe it was painted red as that's the cheapest paint wcr has, and they new they would be fettling it for a while - eg marking it up and scuffing etc - so maybe the green might make a comeback after its first intermediate ?!

Apart from one set of driving wheels? The major components were all there?

Come on Martin, that was very easy to say, there WERE a FEW other components required to complete it !
