Thats what happens when you edit a video with a large glass of port in your mitt. What I like about that first scene, is the fact that its obvious a considerable chunk of that coal has disappeared into the firebox over the preceding miles.

With all that has happened this year I'd like to ask Network Rail who? Are a lot of these engineering works being purposely scheduled. After this week I'm scratching my head for many people whether they were on today's or Thursday's tours.

Is that a euphemism for a bottle & straw?.................... :Jawdrop:

Being critical for a mo, I actually thought that most of the panned scene shots in the first part aren't necessary. ;)

The Yeti will remember that on the night of 15th May 1965 the Engineers were due to take possession of the down line from Micheldever when we had passed and so they did. Not before of course in that ordered world. How different now. How dare NR be so blatantly awful as to change things after the start of the trip. They will get a blasting in my column

I mean there have been several instances of this behavior even before what happened this spring with wcrc. The Wootton incident gave NR and ORR the ammunition to do more of this craziness than in the past. Assuming on my part perhaps?

Completely agree with all the comments about NR - this is an organisation that is a mess.

But, if you read the news - and I mean the railway news not the made up stuff, it is clear that the NR organisation is in a mess top to bottom, On this forum we only get worked up about the steam related bits but all across the network, they lurch from crisis to crisis - whether it is big things like oops not enough engineers to electrify the Midland Main Line or not enough signalling engineers to deliver any resignalling on time or on budget, or the small local projects that get subbed out to contractors who take forever to deliver a small piece of work, NR do not look in good shape. Please can everyone get to grips with the fact that Steam is a big thing for us and a tiny, tiny thing for NR. If they are short of train planners what do you think takes priority - moving 30 train loads of aggregate or a steam special.

The Steam Tour organisers need to realise they are not competing with each other in any meaningful way and start acting together - NR listens to the loudest commercial and PR voices. I recognise there are a dwindling band of steam enthusiasts within the NR organisation and they cannot continue to be as influential as they were in the past. The Steam lobby needs to get its act together and agree priorities, like gauging and train planning, with NR before it's too late.

Well, despite NR we had an excellent day out. The service on the train from WCR, RTC and in particular the catering crew in Premier Dining was very good. Tangmere seemed in fine fettle on the outward journey. I understand that the final timings and decision to detach Tangmere at Eastleigh were only notified the evening before. Even the signalman controlling Eastleigh didn't seem to understand the revised plan, resulting in some 20 minutes delay although much of this was recovered by Three Bridges. For me as a paying pasenger, the difference being on the train having a Class 47 hauling us on the final leg in the dark compared to Tangmere was not really important and did not fundamentally spoil the day. I'm sure it spoilt the evening of the many enthusiasts and members of the public who had come out expecting to see a steam locomotive yesterday evening.

Does anybody know where the works were that would supposedly have prevented Tangmere from returning to Southall? I see from RTT that the ecs got back to Acton ok at 2256 and Tangmere got back just over an hour earlier

I see, reported on another web site, that someone has purportedly put a picture on Facebook of Tangmere having hit the buffer stops at Weymouth on yesterdays trip.

All evidence seems to suggest this did not happen and it may be a photoshop hoax.

I don't know enough first hand information to be able to say whether NR is in as bad a shape as you say but I do agree that the charter 'voice' might be heard more clearly if it spoke as one. How much the non-steam charter market is affected by last minute actions by NR is an unknown factor but the issues with steam are now coming fast and furious. Sadly some of them are self-inflicted and not by NR.

We shouldn't lose sight of the fact that, unlike WCRC, DBS probably has a reasonable influence already but rather too much does rely on what WCRC says it can or cannot do. How they meet the needs of both SD and the RTC in an even handed manner (if indeed they do!) is their business but 2015 has become a messy year at any number of levels and not just because of the WCRC hiccup. The issue over this trip certainly hasn't helped straight after the Duchess debacle.

NR is a total shambles and it is high time that the ORR rapped them firmly over the knuckles and ordered them to put their customers higher up their list of priorities and to treat them in a lot fairer fashion. How many firms would survive in today’s world if they treated their customers in a way that NR treats theirs ? The question is – do NR have to give a damn ? Because they are giving a very good impression that they don't !!

Actually it was Weston signal box 2 miles further on. We passed that at 93 mph and all the engineers were standing by the track with their lights on etc ready.

My understanding was that they were scheduled to start at 22.30 but waited for us to pass at just after that. There was some doubt amongst the 4 of us timing it whether the tsr would have already been on, spoiling the high speed attempt.

It seems from one comment above, NR notified the change the evening before the train ran, not while it was running. Still not acceptable of course.

Really, MrKnowwun? "All the evidence"? "a photoshop hoax"? I don't think so...but more importantly nor does the driver of the steam loco, or the signaller at Dorchester SB who took the call from him to report it at 13.08, or the station staff at Weymouth who logged the incident and closed Platform 2 pending inspection, or the P Way who attended at 20.00 and confirmed the Platform 2 stops had been pushed back 6 inches but no other damage done, whereupon Platform 2 reopened for business.

With all respect (purportedly) Mr Knowwun, , you have to be very VERY good to fabricate all that in Photoshop. But thanks for sharing your personal insight into "all the evidence". Keep up the good work...

If you are going to champion the cause of accurate reporting here, (good luck with that), can I suggest you mention the words "suggest" and "may be" as used by Mr Knowwun in his last sentence which tends to indicates he was leaving the door open just a little on his post.

    Thank you.

PS. Good luck with your continuing search for geeks.
