No route discs. What a pity. It is like a lady without stilettos! Quite shoddy in fact.

Are you sure it was unassisted? It may just be you tube, but it looks like Tangmere was moving without the wheels turning for the first few seconds.

The acceleration was too quick given the exhaust beat and what would have been an unassisted load of getting on for 500 tons. But that's only an issue for the purists.

    Totally agree Al.

Still lovely watching a Bulleid heading to Waterloo from Woking. Brings back vast numbers of memories.

I think I only ever once recorded a 90mph from a Woking start heading to Waterloo. 34013 on a light load. Don and I knew the driver and just asked to see if he could get a 90mph for us. So he did!

Might have had others but can't recall them at the moment.

I see what you mean about the movement. I didn't notice that at the time but I was very tired when I uploaded it. Had a week off work last week as holiday but I feel absolutely knackered at the end of it after a lot of travelling/driving and long country walks. As she slipped when she moved off I guessed she was doing all the work but looking at the video again it does appear that she had a bit of help.

Thank you. Very pleased with it considering I didn't have a tripod, just a steady hand!

Hi Green Five - lovely shots and the B&W could almost be 1960's - nice work.

As far as I can see, the brochures say "steam hauled" or with a "steam engine" or similar. They don't say "we promise not to put a diesel on the back, or if there is one we promise it won't be allowed to push" - so those who criticise the promoters for not delivering what they have advertised - are you sure? As per another post in another thread, this is 2015, and this is the price of steam - if a diesel on the back offends you then a. don't book and b. don't come out to watch. If you do either - then don't complain. In my humble opinion, a last minute cancellation because NR cannot manage to keep its' gauging database up to date is a real cause for complaint. Otherwise be glad that the rail network allows 60/70/80 year old museum pieces - wonderfully maintained and crewed but still past retirement age - out onto their crowded and over-stressed network is a cause for rejoicing, no matter what is carrying the tail lamp.

I'm off to dream of oil baths and chains.

    Mike

Thanks Mike for the picture comments.

I have no complaints about this trip at all, it was enjoyable and 34067 did seem to be working hard throughout the day. We could certainly hear the Bulleid chatter from the rear of the train. We had a better deal than the passengers who were on the SD 46233 charter the following day and also those on the 34067 trip today.

Hi, yes, really good to hear that 34067 is on song again - there's nothing like it - and totally agree with your comments about the latter trips.

It's unlikely even bulleid would have expected any of his locos to be still working hard on the main line in 2015! So we really should be grateful for what we get ! Hopefully DCE will run to plan as I am on it!!

Has anyone in the area eyeballed the DCE this morning. Is it Tangmere as scheduled?

Might be normal with the early part of this schedule. See the very first post in this thread when I had noticed the same issue and the follow up posts that day which show it easily back on time later in the run.

20 late out of BSTK, sounding and looking Tangmere like but a bad case of DS on departure

All the time was lost between Putney & Barnes Bridge and that put her behind the Hounslow Loop stopper. Was she having problems that meant that she was held to allow the stopper to pass?
I thought she sounded a bit laboured at Brentford, but I think she was running into double yellows so wasn't going to be pushing on.
