A pity they didn't have a clapped out V2 to delight the aural senses but that would not have been a fitting loco for a royal train. Nice to see Mr. Gresley's finest doing the honours.

Very many thanks for posting the first lineside photo of the day.

Hope the loco and support crew etc find that so they can download it. Adding to copies of the BBC coverage that no doubt is being recorded for them by loved ones.

Or a grimy B1. The last and only time I was on the Waverley route was in 1964. My brother and I cabbed 61029 Chamois at Hawick station in August of that year. As West Countrymen, I remember struggling to understand what the driver and fireman were saying. A translator would have been useful!!

The run of the empties back looks to be quiet spirited. A shame that 60163 was not on the other end.

Edit. Misread the times, normal speeds.

Agree - there is a clapped out V2 at Locomotion to consider for future years :)

Even in her current state I'm sure 4771 would sound much more even than some of the V2s that worked over the Waverley Route.

John Cameron was clearly pleased as punch that UoSA was accorded the honour and made it to Tweedbank after all the problems this summer. As well he and all the people who have looked after the loco since it was preserved should be - a crowning (see what I did there?) achievement. All the people who made today possible should be very proud and hopefully it is just the start of something special for the Borders Railway.

    Regards,

    Dan

The NRM must be quietly gutted that the most obvious contender, Flying Scotsman, still isn't ready and missed this golden moment. It can still appear in the future of course and, hopefully will.

Personally, I am pleased for John Cameron and his team. As a single owner he has quietly gone about the business of providing enjoyment for many with UoSA and TGM, without any undue fuss. This is a just reward that I suspect he was not even seeking.

Saw this searching for vids of 60009 on Borders Railway re-opening special.

If you want to look out of the window, I suggest you book a seat on the Royal Train....

    Certainly agree with that!
Totally different atmosphere on this train compared to "normal" steamtours.
Same goes for the Edinburgh departure video as well.
Ironically I had a SD Xmas/new year brochure through the door today.
Had a quick glance through just for interest, now in the recycle bin!
Did note however that 46201 & 60103 are due to be used in the future.

Was the upper lamp missing from the road train headcode, replaced it seems by a small headboard?
