44901 was and i think still is at Andrew Goodmans yard. There were pictures a while back on the broadway blog when the footbridge for broadway was also store there for a while. The facebook group for the Vale of Berkeley railway is very responsive so any questions can easily be put there to ask about.

Hmm, knock up a pontoon bridge with a killer incline at each end, job jobbed! 'Lydney Junction, change here for Berkeley Road!' :D

This is a shame for the GWR but I guess if they could not offer the amount of turns to the loco they had not option but to go.
The railway has no lost variety in locos.

The 4F (44027) is part of the National Collection and as such any move would need sanctioning by the National Railway Museum. Presumably that has been sanctioned. Very surprising that they are allowing it to be moved to such an embryonic site.

Perhaps @Anthony Coulls could comment? I'd forgotten it was an NRM loco. I do know it has a named custodian, so I suppose it would depend what the original agreement was.

Not saying it has left the railway, but the chassis has at least moved from where it was last time as I couldn't see it on Saturday.

The 4F boiler is at the VoBR site already (pics on their Facebook site) which would suggest that the chassis will follow.

I note that you are an active C&W volunteer at Winchcombe so presumably if not at your finger tips you know someone who has access to the railways rolling stock records. These should show exactly who owns, or is the responsible custodian / keeper of every item on the railway along with any obligations. That should answer the question of what belongs to or is the responsibility of the Churchill group.

My understanding is that all rolling stock and other items currently on the GWSR belonging to the Churchill group and to a former director of the railway, with interests in road haulage, and his associate companies, will be leaving shortly if they have not already done so. Most, but not necessarily all will be moving to the VBR.

Further to the 4F situation. It is unclear from documents in my possession, produced by the NRM, who exactly the locomotive is on loan too. It is listed as being at the GWSR with contact details for that railway. However, this does not mean it is on loan to the GSWR. It would though be interesting to know more about the conditions and obligations regarding its loan agreement. Remember, there was some controversy in the enthusiast media when the previous arrangements with the Midland Railway Centre were terminated.

Out of interest where was this announced? It's a shame to see the 4F leave as it would seem an ideal locomotive for the GWSR but it seems most of the motive power eggs are in the Dinmore Manor lots basket now

Well yes - that's why I went for "most" as I had 35006 and 2807 to mind but in haste of typing perhaps I have rather overlooked a goodly supply of motive power :)

5542 isn't permanently based at the GWSR is it/ it moves around. And who knows, Foremark Hall might return to the S & C one day! But the general principle is that if you look at most of the bigger railway, stuff mores around - it's one reason why the NYMR, WSR &Mid Hants have been looking to buy locos, to ensure their provision of motive power. The GWSR of course have been fortunate to secure 7820 and the other DMF locos coming in.

Volunteers got told around Christmas 2014, along with the departure of the 8F. It was never officially publicly announced but was gradually leaked and gossiped about until it became common knowledge.

5542 seems to spend the majority of its time based here, and I'm told the group love how much we use it and have been very kind to us. As said, DMLF is hardly our only loco supplier although it looks like they're are here to stay. 3850 has an overhaul to have first and 2874 will be years away yet. Next year we should have 7903, 35006, 4270, 7820, and 2807 as residents along with 5542. I should imagine with that stable one will go on holiday as with 7820 this year.

Christmas! Only nine months to reach my armchair then :) Am happy to stand corrected on my original slightly negative post and would be interested on what the gossip is for the future of 76077?

Apparently it is supposed to be started once P&O is finished.

Thought I'd replied to this last night, oh well!

I'm fairly sure I know what the Churchill group own on the GWSR (definitely a couple of tarped CCTs, probably one or two wagons) but was just wondering if they had anything else elsewhere that might contribute to "a lot". As far as I am aware none of the rolling stock has left the GWSR yet apart from the bits of locos and I should imagine would take a long time to do so, not least because of the shunting involved to release some, add to that the fact some that may not be mobile enough.

That's interesting, where else would it go if not VBR or perhaps Wishaw? If there's no home for it at the VBR I'd have thought it would make sense to leave it here where we can look after it, especially if it's items we have already restored.

I believe the custodian of the 4F is the same certain road haulier businessman, so how it fits in with the 8F group I'm not entirely certain - that would have been Toddington business, not Winchcombe! No idea what the conditions are as to the loan agreement though. I'm afraid I don't think I'd have been aware of the controversy at he Midland Railway Centre, any chance of a quick summary?
