Grateful that I was incorrect. Saw a short clip and thank you. I just want what is best for the tour operators. With the loco shortage that there is right now.

Perhaps we should assume that what SD chose to say was information that they had been given. Whether that information was correct and where it came from is a separate matter between them and the source.

It would be wise not to make direct accusations publicly though. Just saying.......

If you knew your loco had "problems with its boiler that might need immediate attention" would you have a: passed its FTR, and b:let it out on the main line, as they did yesterday.

Maybe it just needs a boiler washout Al. Cant see that it needs a DL on the N&W. The route isn't that difficult. 4965 made mincemeat of it with 9 on. It certainly wont need one for the WSE on 19th. At least I hope not

Fair comment ,just annoys me when we work so hard and put in endless hours free of charge to get the engine ready for these trips, and even were willing to service overnight for the trip today, resourced support crew members and for SD to cancel the trip

I didn't think 34067 had any problems on the DCE?

In fairness I don't think it was the fault of SD. Say no more

It sounds as if the Cathedrals Express to Cardiff today was cancelled unnecessarily. <BJ>

I have the greatest respect for support crews, without them we don't have anything, and heaven knows,no locomotive needs a cheerleader more than Tangmere this year, however I still think it's unwise to slag off,on a public forum,SD when they are hiring your locomotive?

Anyway, moving on,it has been widely reported on the DCE thread that Tangmere is not operating the Cheshireman. If this is correct, given that you have repeatedly and loudly stated that there is "nothing wrong" with the locomotive,it would be interesting to know why?

    Thanks

I was thinking the same. If Tangmere is indeed fit and healthy and is a Class 7 locomotive, and what is more is the booked loco, why at the last minute hire in a Class 5????

This is turning into something more intriguing that an episode of Eastenders.

This all feels like a WCRC decision to me. WCRC does own Tangmere, does it not?

Is 34067 due for any maintenance work that may have been brought foreward by Carnforth? who knows, 34067 could go up to Carnforth, to join the northern pool and 35018 replace it down south at some stage, whats the situation with 73096 has she been stripped for a boiler overhaul yet?

Not sure who actually owns Tangmere, but it is certainly in their care and the same day-to-day decision-making applies as for 48151, 46115, 44932 or 45699.

Blimey. That is one heck of a journey for the Black 5. Compared the mileage with that from Southall to Bristol is is, I guess, almost double the distance? Most odd.

45231 in transit about 10 late south of Shrewsbury ... not where I intended to go but there were huge queues on the A49 north of Dorrington because of roadworks. DSC_4148__D800 45231 Burgs Lane Bayston Hill 110915.JPG
