I've been to the NYMR a number of times but have not yet tried the location immediately south of Goathland station (see attached photo). Is it possible to access without a lineside permit and if so how do you get there?

It is possible to reach this location without a lineside permit.

Basically walk over the top of the railway bridge and walk down the road and just before the big hill out of Goathland you need to turn right down the little country lane (this looks towards Pickering). Just after you go over the cattle grid which isn't far, there is a gate on your right. Go through this and walk next to the river, you will come to another railway bridge. This time you have to go under it and cross the river - this can be a little troublesome at certain points of the year... There are stepping stones across but you have to ensure the river isn't too high as they get very slippery... Once over the river it's just a matter of climbing back up on the other side which takes you into the field.

    Hopefully this makes sense.

That's great thank you. I did wonder whether the access was from down that lane but wanted to make sure.
