It will be on the LMS set on wednesday after arriving at KR in the morning (set swap), and on thursday all day. As there's a lot of loco swapping Friday and Saturday, I think you do get it on both set L and C during the course of the gala.

The exhaust beats sound weird to me, but I can't think what. Does anyone else hear something odd or is it just me?

Either way, great video, nice to see her running again.

Couldn't hear any squeak myself - at what time on the video did you hear a squeak?

It didn't sound quite even in reverse, but was better in forward gear. Might just have been the cutoff in use at the time the video was made.

Interesting to see in the clip at Highley that the steam heat was in use on what was an ECS working! Maybe testing out the rake, or just to keep the guard warm!

I would think that they were actually testing the steam heat valve on the loco.

Yes indeed. On another clip you can see a constant flow of steam issuing from a pipe on the front of the loco. Presumably there should be a "directional" valve so that the steam heat supply only goes in the direction required!

Anyway, minor detail apart, this looks like a superb end product of all the "corrective" work undertaken at Crewe. Certainly a different outcome to 46100's previous false start on the WSR a few years ago. Credit where credit is due.

There's a stop valve at the base of the steam heat pipes, so you can direct which end of the loco plus tender delivers the steam. Presumably it was left open for testing purposes or it was leaking.

46100 really does look immaculate, with a particularly good looking shade of Deep Bronze green. There's something about a good finish kept in beautiful condition that really pleases me, like it's an exceptional piece of art. :)

    Kind regards,
    Chris

Hi no not a squeaking noise a whining noise like the sound of a traction motor like number 12 , 14/09/2015 video on YouTube you can hear it, sounded better on the WSR on YouTube , and yes it does look very smart in green. FISH7373

Could this be related to the air pump as I sense it is similar to the sound emitted from the belt drive of the dynamos fitted to early MkI stock.

Fred, as I mentioned in #575 upthread, a fitter confirmed to me on Monday that the whirring sound is generated by the newly turned tyres.

    Cheers,

Heard it today ,I think its the right hand side anti-vacuum valve ,this valve opens automatically so as not to let smoke -box gases into the steam chest and cylinders when coasting. Some are louder than others. Northampton enthusiast's used to call M R/LMS 4F 0-6 0S clackers because of this.
