The whole point of making crank angles uneven is to even out the beat when the centre cylinder is at a different angle to the outers. See the Gresley A3/A4s.

Does anyone have an idea what loco will be working on Thursday and Friday of this week? Any chance of the T9?

    Thanks

Being very fond of the T9, and having sorely missed it at my local steam railway (Bodmin), I shall make the pilgrimage to Swanage in October for the gala, as the safest bet. It looks compulsory for any Southern devotee anyway; Sir Lamiel is the star but the T9 is very worthy icing on the cake for me! And the resident locos are themselves worth the trek.

Still vacancies at Swanage Youth Hostel on the relevant dates!

A man from the Bailey was heard saying that '104 will be out.

Hmm, thanks. Lovely engine, but I have already had rather a few runs behind her and taken plenty of pictures. Maybe I'll wait until the gala before coming down.

When does 31806 return from the north? I'm popping to Swanage tomorrow and wondered if I should be keeping an eye out for a low-loader turning up at Norden while I'm there.

Sorry for the slow response; 31806 not booked to come back until between 9-12 October.

The plan for locos is 80104 until Sunday (replaced 34070 after Manston suffered injector issues last Sunday), with 34070 then taking over again from Monday.

Don't worry about the reply, whatever info you can put on here whenever is always appreciated. Had a very decent day with the Standard, walked down from Harmans to Swanage in the morning for train back up, then did likewise from Harmans to Norden in the afternoon. Fantastic weather.

One question - what's the tender in the siding at Norden from?

It is the third SR mogul tender; never run in preservation, but potentially for 31625.

    Interesting, thanks.

Doesn't look like I can make the gala but will be back for more walking and service train riding on the Monday afterwards.
