    Probably needs the extra power to keep to the timings. Yes, a pannier should be OK with 5 coaches, but it could be a bit of a slog up the hill on the return. They may also have needed one at each end either coming out of TYS or shunting at Stratford?

    Spot on Sidmouth! Not enough H2O in a Pannier to reliably do SOA - TYS - Snow Hill - TYS with 5 vehicles. Never forget, as Colin Jacks once said "On the Great Western, Birmingham is uphill from everywhere"
