In other news, there will be a beer and cider festival at the King & Castle on 16th-18th October which overlaps with Tornado's visit.

In a couple of weeks I will be visiting Kidderminster and want to stay within walking distance of the station, any suggestions please. B&B to hotel, not really bothered.

The premier inn in Kiddy is a 10 minute walk and very comfortable.

Thanks guys, I had seen the Premier Inn but just wondered if there was anywhere closer, I'll give Victoria House a call first.

Following on from the above, no response yet from Victoria House, Travel Lodge seems like next alternative but it looks quite a long walk from the station, is it? Premier Inn might be nearer but it's quite a bit more expensive.

Depending how fast you walk, I would say about 20 mins for the Travel Lodge, 15 for Premier Inn. I effectively do double the distance within 30 mins on a regular basis. The disadvantage of the two is that you have to walk through Kidderminster....

Seen elsewhere, the first connection into the new diesel depot at Kidderminster is in progress, a track from the turntable, from an existing turntable turn-off road.

Seen in WHS this morning: Heritage Railway magazine have produced a 130 page 50th Anniversary glossy softcover covering the SVR's first 50 years, looks good value at £6-99.
( Other railway magazines are available....)

It's been available for a little while. The station shops at Kidderminster and Bridgnorth also have them.

In which case I will buy my copy at the KDR shop tomorrow, rather than in WHS!

Just back from riding behind 60163 and 46100. The SVR was very busy today. I was on the 11-45 am out of Kidderminster behind Tornado, and the train was absolutely packed. Uncomfortably so. Some very cautious driving turned an on time departure from Kidderminster into a quite late departure from Arley where I left the train. By contrast my return to Kidderminster behind 46100, also late due to Tornado's slow progress, provided some spirited driving.
On reflection perhaps the SVR might have considered upgrading to an all steam timetable "C" for this and next weekend, given the attractions on offer. Timetable "C" would have provided four Kidderminster departures up to 12-45, against today three departures up to 1-05pm. This would have spread the load somewhat. Some passengers detrained from the 11-45 before departure due to the crowded conditions. I might add that some passengers were not aware of the quality motive power up front, there were just lots of mainly non-enthusiast people wanting to travel the Valley.

Revenue-wise the SVR must be having an excellent end to the season.

The 10.30 ex-KR was busier than the 11.45, not helped by 70 odd in parties. Hopefully, having Tornado on the Bridgnorth train tomorrow will break the rush up a bit.

My ops knowledge is limited and I haven't spoken to anyone about it, but I have some sympathy. The Royal Scot arrangement was a late one. There were pre-booked passengers/diners on table B and rosters and the like filled. To have done so would have involved additional train staff and an additional set, and possibly changed box times (would it need an extra box open?), additional shunts and changed maintenance etc. On the face of it it would be difficult in the time available.

Irrespective of the rostering of 46100, I wonder if pre-booking a large party with reserved seating was wise for arguably the busiest departure of the day, on the first Saturday of half-term.
