I was only suggesting that work might intensify once 44027 was done so there was room for 2874 to come inside. I didn't know quite so much had been done already though, so that's good news!

    Mike,

A little correction for your 2874 blog - 2873 at the South Devon is also an inside steam pipe survivor and according to the SDR loco webpage, may eventually steam. It certainly has more chance than 2861!

    Good luck with the restoration

    Cheers Keith,

I believe the Blog writer has been made aware of his error but has been away and unable to correct it just yet!

There was also a piece about exactly this in the aforementioned issue of steam railway in the news pages.

Ah, 2873. For so long forgotten it seems but resting and rusting at the SDR. I recall seeing it at Tyseley in 1989 and took this photo of it with something called Thornbury Castle (which is also in limbo). At the time, the vulture in me thought, just look at those driving wheel tyres, much better than 2807's. In the end, of course, we ended up with fitting brand new tyres to our 2807, pony truck included. The tender, well that was OK wheel wise. As the photo shows, 2873 indeed has inside steam pipes, something 2807 had until around 1936.

Isn't 2873's boiler still at Tyseley and only the chassis at the SDR? IIRC the boiler was intended for the aborted 'Star' project. Ray.

I believe that is correct Ray. I think Tyseley tried to sell it a few years back. Maybe time for the SDR to do a deal...!

I don't check the 7903 website all that often, so it was good to see another update, it doesn't seem like there's a massive amount left to do, hopefully in steam by the end of this year... I wonder if they'll be devilish enough to put it in GW livery? :D So by the end of the year, we should have 7820, 2807, 35006, 7903, 4270, and perhaps 5542 depending on her movements

Would be lovely to see a future for 2873, saw a photo of her at Barry when I was a kid and she always stuck in my mind.

It would appear that progress is being made, at least in the planning stage, for the long-awaited restoration of BR Standard Class 4 No 76077, as the latest (18 Oct) piece in the GWR Boardroom Blog implies. (See link)
