    I was there :)

Megadeath and someone else (can't remember who) supporting, got back in the car and listened to the last 15 minutes again as we queued to get out as it was delayed broadcast. Just in case anyone swore ;-)

I wonder if selling tickets for that movement has ever been considered?

Could it actually be done in one day i.e. getting back to Fort William from Carnforth (bearing in mind that nothing north stops at Carnforth?

Change at Lancaster for Carnforth. No Problem.

Apart from the fact it could add c. 1 hr to the journey and I remain unclear whether you could steam FW-Carnforth then Carnforth - Lancaster - Glasgow - FW in a day? I suppose to save a little time you could put a diesel on the back of the ECS move and then run that to Lancaster?

I was actually thinking just a one way trip, make your own way to FW the day before.

What leaving the poor sods to fend for themselves for a night in Carnforth afterwards - that's just cruel! ;)

I assume there is a reason this hasn't been done?

In the 1990s I remember a railtour to get the loco back as far a Glasgow or Edinburgh, it started in London with a sleeper service with day stock, at about 06:00 change to day coaches to Fort William behind diesel, then steam back to Edinburgh, back in to the overnight stock to Glasgow, stabled overnight in the station. The next day was a trip back to London in daylight. In effect this was a 2 1/2 day outing, all for about £100 including the sleepers, at the time this was a reasonable price. From memory the engine was a black 5, this failed just outside Glasgow with a pin coming out of the regulator so it couldn't be opened.
There was another version of this trip a few years before that was overnight to Edinburgh, then "Osprey" (as it then was) to Aberdeen and back, then overnight back via Newcastle, Carlisle & the S&C (engineering works elsewhere) to London, a mate had not been over the S&C so we stayed up until about 3 to go over it, being told to turn the buffet coach lights out when we went to bed!
All in all these were good fun trips.

And with the 37 probably doing all the work, saves on water stops, will do it with just one.

Absolutely superb video Austin. That opening shot with the looming Beinn Dorain in the background is a belter, it just got better from there on in. Great to watch, so on to a second viewing! Many thanks for sharing.

    Cheers,

    Alan
