I remember talking to a 34007 member some years ago and being told 34007 would be painted in malachite. It's nice to have a change from BR green. With any luck 925 and 850 will stay in their present liveries. I get bored seeing locos turned out in BR green or BR black all the time.

Variety is the spice of life and if a loco carried more than one livery in its lifetime than it's nice to see that reflected in preservation.

Well 34007 does have a higher sided tender tank awaiting its chassis. Depending on if 34007 steams when 34105 is in ticket (not sure how likely this is) then you could have 34007 in malachite as 21c107 (which would look great with 925 in the same livery) with 34105 in BR Green at the same time which would be nice.

I see Holland America Line has disappeared from Icons of Steam website. I wonder if they've swapped it for another loco?..

Why would anyone want to swop an almost complete MN with tender for a loco that is virtually just a boiler on wheels? especially if 35018 is not far from a return to steam,

If JH did a deal with carnforth -

JH buys almost complete 35018 for a big chunk of cash + Holland America line

Big chunk of cash goes towards another project (34016?) that's easier to finish. Carnforth still get a merchant to do once more of their fleet is out and about.

    Or

JH done a deal with Ian Riley to get port line done quicker?

    Or

35022 and port line become one engine?

    Or

35022 has been scrapped with the boiler kept as spare

    Or

35022 has been sold to a 3rd party

    Or

    I have purchased it. *

Spoiler: I have absolutely no evidence or basis for any of these ideas!!!!!!!

    * this is a lie. I'm not even allowed the £500 for the 0 gauge kit version...

Nah its still there, however it is no longer linked off the front page.

They say they have 12 locos in their fleet, maybe they are superstitious and have removed 35022 until they have acquired another loco to bring the number up to 14.

In that case, there's a rather unloved Spam Can (or a collection of bits) looking for a new owner at Carnforth. Someone (probably on this forum) suggested that JH would like to acquire an unrebuilt Bulleid Pacific. That may nust have been casual gossip, but the purchase of 34073 would enable Icons of Steam to move on rapidly from "unlucky 13". Maybe they could put all the bits onto a couple of wagons and 45231 tow the lot down to Crewe when it moves to its new home.

i think that if Icons of steam wanted an Original Light pacific then the only one they might want to get would be 34067, if the owners could be persuaded to sell, how much does JB need to overhaul 73096 or 34016? assuming he hasnt sold it (34016) or IOS could buy out the businessman friend of John smiths share?
In some ways i think if they did and Tangmere came under IOS, It may be a good move for Tangmere

Both Merchant Navies are still on the IOS website.
They have now put up this interesting table with details of all the IOS Locomotives with their current status and when their Boiler tickets expire/begin:

Yes, I noticed that too. I guess whoever worked on the table started before 45231 was purchased and forgot to update the text at the beginning. It looks like they have been busy lately as there is a fair bit of new stuff on the website. There is also a website on the way for the new Crewe works as there is a link on the IOS site.

Will probably get told off by NickT for stealing his thunder, but it was announced to SLL shareholders yesterday that the restoration of 34010 will go ahead, with 34028's boiler used- so this will probably be the first locomotive works-style boiler swap on a Bulleid in preservation. It seems that the frames of 34028 will be stored undercover at Sellindge, along with 34010's original boiler. It is anticipated that preparatory work will then commence on the latter. To quote the circular:

'We have to have new cylinder covers manufactured, new pistons, piston rods and valves but we do have slide bars and crossheads. We also have a new set of coupling rods half machined along with injectors. We will need to build new running boards, and to manufacture new smoke deflectors, a cab and cab support, fit a new dragbox, obtain lubricators and a large supply of copper pipe! At the end of the restoration we will undoubtedly have to borrow a few small items of motion and a few cab fittings...' So another Bulleid moves in from the cold. My share application will be completed as soon as finances allow.

Not at all.....I was going to post the news later today by which time hopefully all the shareholders will have received and read their emails. As a resident of EX10 (aka "Sunny Sid") you can imagine my pleasure in this. Thanks for your support.

Good news, but what future does 34028 face?
