Hmm a Churchward/Collett 2-8-0 comparison? Sounds good to me. You can never have too many 28's. The press release mentions a West Midlands based consortium, so local lines may be favoured. SVR, CVR, GCR, GWR spring to mind as most likely/accesible.

All of the above is utter waffle of course!

This is all excellent news-yet another former Barry scrapyard resident on its way to restoration. In any case 8 coupled Western locos are something else-me being a recent convert.

Craned in from the road below, presumably it'll be going out the same way.

Did anyone attending the recent open days at Tyseley find any further information about what the future holds for this engine? I recall an un-named group were working on 2885, which --as far as ex-Barry engines go--was reported to be in sound condition.

Good job it's not meant to be a secret with those posts! I look forward to seeing 2885's progress. Can never have too many 28's!

For Clarity - whilst there is some commonality of members between the 2885 group and the EMF, they are separate groups.

Thanks all for your responses. Sounds like the loco is in good hands.

There must be something about Manors and 28XXs that make them fit well together, perhaps the Foxcote Manor folk should acquire 2859!

    Update re this loco.

Good progress is being made securing missing non ferrous fittings though several rather large items such as the safety valves, clacks, injectors , snifters & a boiler water gauge are still needed (offers of serviceable items for sale would be of interest via a message if your garage happens to contain any of these!).

The valve gear has been stripped, is being cleaned & polished for NDT & the expansion links & die blocks have been reconditioned. Fortunately this loco still has all its own motion making the rebuild somewhat more straightforward than many ex Barry locos.
Plate work repairs are in hand to replace the few badly corroded sections of cab & platform.
Preparations are in progess to remove the cab & boiler.

High on the list is a full boiler survey once lifted & detubed. That will allow a repair scheme to be developed.

Opportunities to support this project will be announced shortly.

NOTE to Mods - can the thread title be shortened to loose the "for sale" part please as this is now misleading.
