With 6233 reverting back to LMS livery soon, I came across an older shot when it was that colour last.

This was a digital file that I'd thought I'd lost, but came across the print and scanned it in. Colours are a bit bit light but managed to 'tweak' it a bit in photoshop.

Although historically correct in LMS red I still prefer it like this

A spell in BR maroon wouldn't go amiss. Or blue for that matter.

6233 was never in BR red but Blue would be a nice change.

Does it matter that 6233 was never BR maroon? It never had air brakes or a royal seal above the nameplate so authenticity is already flexible perhaps.

Depends how pedantic you want to be, there is no external visual evidence of air braking and the crown is a small embellishment. Livery is something else and authenticity I think is important. Perhaps it's the railway modeller in me coming out.

Understand your point but we would only know its historically inaccurate in our minds contrasting with the actual visual differences of which there are many, albeit mostly minor, of this magnificent loco in its modern operational form.

Well it's not only LMS. When she got her smoke deflectors added during or just after the war she would have been filthy anyway, and coaches probably mostly LMS Period IIIs (with some older coaches somewhat haphazardly mixed in).

BR green with Mk 1s is probably the most accurate you could get it today.

That said, red is a better colour for engines. It's dominant whereas green is recessive. One of the worst mistakes BR made was to adopt horrible GWR green as its passenger engine livery. Had it chosen Midland/LMS red things would have been much better.

If you want pedant, what about the tender, not only the hose connections either side but the lumpy bit at the back for increased water capacity.

It's 2015 so it can't be 100% accurate but my own personal view is that it should be as close as possible, but then it's not my engine. Lizzie has been mentioned which is another loco not quite right, for LMS livery it should have a domeless boiler.

Totally agree with the view that Jubilees, Jinties etc in red look silly as does a 9F in green with a daft name and could be said to be doing a disservice to future historians.

History is made by the second so painting a 9F green with a "daft name" will become as much part of the loco's history as was it's "Barry rust" livery etc. The story of the loco didn't end with its withdrawal from traffic.

Can't agree with that, in railway preservation the key word is preservation. Heritage railways are working museums and have an educational responsibility the same as any other museum. The GCR can replicate as near as possible the sight of a typical BR mineral train but not with a green 9F, at least the 8F is now in a sensible livery.

Having said that it's not my engine but such a shame that the GCR has sold its soul to someone who seems to use it for his own personal ego trip
