Rare Loco Discovered in Zumerzet!

This rare German locomotive has been found in deepest Zumerzet ;-) With apologies to H G Ivatt.

 

What on earth was that about?

There is no truth in the rumour that having turned out two Ivatts in the space of 2 years the ESR was approached to make a stand in version of Flying Scotsman in 10 days as doubts surface about completion of the overhaul to schedule...

 

I think we may not be in mainland Europe in the film.

 

Perhaps it's for filming "The Man in the High Castle"... In which scenario it may have been an authentic livery for the time period (early 1960s)...

It was for a film being shot locally, expected to be in cinemas late 2016.

 

Didn't 46521 or 46443 get similar makeovers at some point in the past? I'm sure I remember seeing picures of one or the other dressed up to appear continental?!

Robert Powell and the loco was painted dark red, 46443 IIRC. I have a picture of out somewhere.

 

Seems they haven't according to mendiprail.

 

Well it is a British film and has, by film industry standards, a relatively small budget.

The shed yard at Cranmore was pretending to be a large shunting yard in Belfort, France during WW2. I believe the superficial modifications on 46447 were based around a DRB Class 50. An imaginary gold star to anyone who can spot what is wrong with the smoke deflectors!

 

I don't know if it's what you're thinking of but it might be difficult opening the smokebox door with what appears to be a strut right across in front of it!

I believe the deflectors shown are a post war style. the originals commenced on the frame and did not extend as high as the loco in question here, besides being a different shape.
UK loco seems a tad small for a DR Class 50.

 

No, the smokebox door still opened. When you know what it is, it's a big obvious difference!
