Without doubt. But surely Jarvis wouldn't have got the credit anyway, it would conventionally have either gone to Riddles or to whoever Jarvis' line manager as CME of the Southern Region was.
It could be an musing thread picking up the worst misattributions... Arguably the most egregious is Collett's name being attached to the Dukedogs.

I think they've been trying to find a preserved line within reasonable distance, but as people have said above, it's going to be a challenge to find a line willing to take a) such a big loco and b) such a big project. I take it the Remembrance Line she and 35025 were due to run on when finished never materialised.....

RE 35022/27, when they both arrived, that was the plan. There's been a few switcheroo's of boilers and frames since then and I don't know what the plans are now, but I doubt there'll be any big bits left over for 11 short of another MN being broken up for spares.

@GSN, do you know what condition the remaining parts of 11 are in?

When I had look at 35011 few months ago the parts we would need for an original MN didn't look to bad to my amateur eye obviously the main thing missing is the crank axle.
We are planning a working weekend on the loco on the 3rd and 4th October provided we have dry weather.

Always thought the middle cylinder was slightly different. I would have thought that the rebuilts had a casting that formed the base of the cylindrical smokebox. Could be wrong, though.

Was the steam admission not changed around on the replacement cylinders too?

From memory, the rebuilt locos kept the original pattern outside cylinders but had replacement inside ones, so any putative back-conversion would need a new inside cylinder at least.

So has the loco not been inspected yet, either by the current owner(s) or previous restoration attempts?

GCR had 34039, 34101 & 35005 in steam together one weekend as I recall and they /nearly/ went out triple headed on the last train, but common sense prevailed and it went out with 'only' two on it.
At least one GCR driver i know has described 34039 as "a beauty" and is longing for its return. I guess it comes down to personal preference.

Very little work has been done to the loco since it left Barry but the wheels, frames, outside cylinders look OK and maybe the boiler which had a Hornets nest in the firebox crown when I looked at it.

On Facebook the 35011 team posted a link a link to a works report on there website. Its only brief but does show some phyiscal work has begun on the locomotive which is a great news for all those interested in the project.

This appeared on the 35011 facebook page yesterday "Had a very productive meeting today with a potential new home for 35011. Can't say much more unfortunately until things are more concrete". Good to see progress being made.

As seeing alot of people dont have Facebook, I thought I'd update the thread with what they've posted.

They've had some meeting with 2 non heritage railways locations to potentially base the locomotive and are in talks with several heritage lines.
They are launching a membership club in January 2016, the logic being that the year will be a big one for the locomotive and they want to start it with something positive. They are currently running a mini competition to decide on the name for the members magazine.

Looks like this project might actually be worth taking seriously (Espically as they have actually done some (abeit its small) work on the locomotive.)

The GSN project faces a massive credibility hurdle to surmount. I don't think it's quite there yet, but has recently made some significant strides in the right direction. Given that 11 MNs survive, either complete or somewhat less than complete, the case for attempting to restore/unrebuild one to air-smoother format is pretty strong as the long-term market for rebuilt MNs on the main line is likely to be satisfied quite adequately by 35009/18/22/27 and, of couse 35028. On the basis of what is posted to the GSN website, I think we will have a fair idea before the end of 2016 whether the organisational structure is in place for the project to be a "runner" or not. I very much hope that it will be, and wish them well. Thank you for posting the updates.

    Indeed.

Ian Riley has said elsewhere that "35009 will probably reside at Bury for the forthcoming future" and apart from a some parts acquired many years ago, I don't think anything has been done on the loco (or for that matter, any start on the new tender required).

There has been no news of any progress on either 22 or 27 since they were supposed to be started (35027 moved to Riley's in Jan 2011 for work to start) . I think it's safe to assume that they have had very little, if any work done on them.

True, but Ian Riley has been rather tied up with another large green pacific recently. When it and 45212 are both up and running on the main line, who knows? As for 35022 and 35027, they have been queue-jumped by 60532 (and, dare I say it, rightly so, given it is the only surviving A2) while the Hosking enterprise is also pretty busy with returning 46100 and 34046 at the moment, but the time for the MNs will come. The pledge on the relevant pages of the Icons of Steam website that both will be restored to working order doesn't give a timescale, but I'd be surprised if both of them will still be waiting in the queue by the end of 2017.

Shame about 35009, started out with such grand plans when brought to Bury, must be 10 years ago or thereabouts now. Enthusiasm waned it seems, spending on LMS locos like 7298 and 5212 seen as better options? Is it still on eBay?

Same here. There's certainly a lot of potential if everything works out as the back conversation is something I'd like to see happen and would give the group a good USP.
