Think Guy would have been a good choice but Channel 4 have been keeping him busy. Still I'll tune in to see it anyway though I hope it doesn't fall into the same trap as the BBC documentry and rush a few bits of its history.

Really looking forward to seeing her back in steam though and given Ian Riley's track she should be on safe hands during the first 2 years in service.

Guy martin would have been very good, ok the fireman might have never got his shovel back if he had been filming the ELR test runs, i can see Guy martin, pleading let me have a go, let me have a go, and looking like a chimney sweep at the end of it.:):):)

Indeed, and Guy went up in my estimation after his "Vulcan" programme. No more of that " yes chief" stuff. And they did let him loose on some serious engineering.

    Robson Green does fishing programmes.....

Suggest you look at his history - he also has engineering pedigree...not quite in Guy's league, but two years as a draughtsman at Swan Hunter.

The unfortunate thing about these BBC programmes that have involved Guy, and a few others of late, the script writer for the narrator insists on attempting to bring some tension into it by over stressing what 'might' happen 'if' ...
The classic for this was the, was it called 'Monster Moves', series and the loco being brought back from South Africa to Glasgow. When the loco was loaded onto the ship, 'if the chains securing it are not secure and strong enough' and 'if there's a bad storm' and 'if the ship rolls or pitches more than 40 deg' the the loco will break loose and could crash through the hull' etc etc etc.....
It never happened in the days of Fred Dibnah.

Trying not to get into the argument of Livery again. However I notice in this Daily Mail article, lots of people are muddling up Scotsman with Tornado. Probably because their numbers are very similar, it does seem that the GBP know it as 4472. While only a few know it as 60103 however the GBP know 60163 well now. For the next few years it might be better if Tornado is not painted BR green for a while. Keep it Apple green or BR Blue. Maybe then people won't get confused.

So you mean that the difference of 60 is not to do with the BR renumbering of Scotsman at nationalisation and how many years later Tornado first went into service?!;)

so when the A2 returns, how many will confuse Flying Scotsman with its deflectors, for Blue peter, or even Tornado,
and that leads to another question, will a future GB xxx feature haulage by all 4 classes of LNER pacific, and 2, 2-6-0s plus a B1.

Barrow Hill have already tried to do that, remember! But I'm sure it's only a matter of time before either they, or someone else, has another go - and I intend to be there when they do.

As for the number confusion - the best way to hit the nail on the head is just to get the two engines in the same place, photograph them together, and then get the NRM and the A1SLT to do a press release. Hopefully the picture will then make it into a few news outlets and thus Joe Public will see the two engines together, and therefore realise that they are not the same. Plus, it's good publicity for all concerned!

Either NRM or Barrow Hill, I'd guess.
(I'm looking forward to seeing pictures of Bittern and Blue Peter side-by-side in Crewe works, recreating the famous Cuneo poster "Giants Refreshed". )

When 60103 was due to haul the 2012 olympic torch but never made it, I wondered how many of the Joe Public would have noticed if they just put Scotsman's number, nameplates and smoke deflectors on Tornado

I think any gala on a preserved railway with an A1, A2, A3 and A4 would probably suffer from its popularity - hire fees too large and passengers outstripping coach capacity - at least for the first year or so of Scotsman's ticket

i dont like the double chimney or smoke deflectors. i think that Jos Koopmans ought to have been consulted to design a draughting arrangement with the original single chimney!

    cheers,

My money is on NRM York, because they already have anA4, ok only static, but i'm sure a working one can be found,;) The A3 will on paper be york based, so a railtour to move The A1 say, Kings cross to York, and Say Edinburgh to York with the A2, return can be deltic, or maybe the 86, a week long show at say York, move the engines in convoy to Shilton, a week there, then back to york, where a railtour can be used to send engines back to home bases, an A1/ A2 trip to london, via crewe where the A2 comes off may be one way?
