Recommendations from friends (via the York Show Facebook page) are -
    • Bengal Brasserie, Goodramgate...
    • or just outside Monk Bar -The Viceroy, Monkgate. (2 mentions)
    • Mirchiz on Fishergate (very good!).
    • Added: 2nd reply - John, can recommend The Raj in Bootham. Have been there a couple of times with friends and we've all enjoyed it.
    Hope these help.

23:04 on 5Z44, don't know if that's accounting for the late departure from York though.

Depending on your price range, Garden of India on Fawcett St (by the Barbican) or Masala Craft on Fishergate (the later is more expensive). Akbar's on George Hudson St was good as well.

My experience of York is from 4 years of uni!

On the subject of delay compensation, I suspect that, since charters are not fined the full amount when they cause delays to others, they're not entitled to anything when they are delayed. Thinking back to the year just gone, that's probably just as well. What sort of bill might WCRC be facing otherwise? (Maybe that's a question for the "review of the year" thread elsewhere...)

Not quite sure what is happening but its currently running just over half an hour late on the original timings having left York nearly 2 hours down. Gained 40 minutes back at Newark and the loop nearby and another 20 minutes to Peterborough. At this rate it'll be early by Cambridge!

Perhaps it doesn't pay to ask too much about details. A Duchess could (can?) go like the wind, it's a double motive power trip, and the ECML has high line limits. Wonder what time for 0-60/75 you can achieve with both units going for it?

If true It means someone has made a stonking cock-up. The who, why and what will no doubt emerge in due course but another bunch of disgruntled passengers I would imagine.

So do WCRC now have a train where it isn't supposed to be parked with all the attendant issues of how it and the crews are supposed to get back to Southall (& pax to Cambridge) because the routing path has run out through an actual system glitch (genuinely accidental), with water bowsers in wrong locations etc, etc., or did the network planners intend it to stop at Ely in the first place for some reason but didn't tell the tour organiser! My cynical head says perhaps the latter.

So did the tour get sorted out to proceed after all? 5Z44 seems to have disappeared off the Ely lists now but it and tour still on Cambridge page

I think you will find that the small number of Cambridge passengers were offered the option of travelling the final short distance home by service train rather than sit at Ely for half an hour while the loco took water.

The time recovered between Newark and Peterborough was largely due omitting the half hour pathing pause in Claypole loop and the 18 mins recovery time after Tallington Jn.
