Should be worth a visit. It'll be nice to see 80072 out and about.

 

You wait all year to see something from the 80072 group running, then 2 things come at once. With the loco and our stores van running (the scenery van), all we need now is to have the BG in the train as a mobile shop.

Whoever has put this programme together has not asked if the Thompson Buffet Lounge car is available. On those dates it will be in Pentrefelin shed undergoing a re-paint prior to moving to the N.R.M.
However the railway's own buffet car is now finished & will be able to take its place.

Whats it at the NRM for? Flying Scotsman exhibition?

 

Yes. The coach was built for the 1948 'Flying Scotsman' sets before switching to the 'Elizabethan' sets.

The Llangollen Railway's Winter Warmer gala weekend is the perfect way to unwind after the hectic Christmas period and enjoy some of the best scenery North East Wales has to offer. The two day weekend event on 2nd and 3rd January 2016 will see a mixture of steam and diesel hauled passenger and goods trains, providing lots of variety and interest for everyone.

During this special weekend, a journey along the 10 mile heritage railway between Llangollen and Corwen will also be a journey back through the decades. Stations along the line will be transformed to resemble different decades:

1930s at Berwyn: Visit the station in the gorge and experience the golden age of the Great Western Railway. Why not break your ...journey and walk over the oldest chain link bridge in the world?

1940s at Glyndyfrdwy: Learn about the role of railways during wartime. Don't forget to pick up your ration book!

1950s at Carrog: The railway has been nationalised! See how the railway's appearance changed under public ownership and take a ride on the station's miniature railway (weather permitting).

1960s at Corwen East: Modernisation is in the air and Dr Beeching is planning to close the line. See some historic publicity and learn about how we are building our own new railway station.

Children will be able to stamp their 'Travel through the Decades' passport at each station; can you collect all four?

An intensive timetable will be in operation over the weekend, allowing plenty of time to explore the stations along the line. Experience how rural branch line journeys would have been on-board our steam-powered Great Western Railway 'auto train', or see how post-war commuter travel would have been like in our Suburban carriages. Travel on our demonstration parcels train and look out for newspapers and parcels being loaded and unloaded along the line.

Come along to the only standard gauge heritage railway in North Wales and join us for a trip back through the decades. A perfect day out for all the family!

Hmmmm, looks like I'll be in the Dee Valley that weekend then - if only to walk across the Chain Bridge! (I had to google it to believe that it's been refurbished and re-opened, looks so much better now!).
