Stuart has tried to start several "groups" previously, in order to be able to say he owns a locomotive.

First we had new builds, but as he continually displayed his complete lack of knowledge, capability or experience in handling such a project they soon died a death.

He returned though, this time with the idea of buying a locomotive that has been mentioned as for sale. Whilst he came close to organising something with GWR 2859, those supporting him realised that in reality he was only seeking the glory and so everything fell through.

As no luck has been achieved with steam, it appears now an Electric Unit has become the latest idea to own a loco.

Sorry Stuart, but people have tried to give you advice previously and you've ignored every single one. Therefore don't be surprised when we all ignore this latest call for help. "WishIHadAName" has summed it up in one, and until you listen to people who know what they are on about you will never get anywhere.

My advice to Stuart is to bear in mind the story of the boy who cried wolf. You will have to do something pretty spectacular now before people will take you seriously, there have been too many silly projects previously, however worthy this latest one may be. So, show a bit of humility, join an established group and work your way through the ranks. If you have what it takes to make a difference it's not hard to do that in a field where people and money are in short supply and you will end up with as much influence as you can cope with!

This is good advice, unfortunately the OP has been given the same advice several times and it has fallen on deaf ears and I fear that we will hear of many more unrealistic schemes from this source while many worthy causes struggle on with a lack of manpower who would welcome his obvious enthusiasm which is a real shame.

Of course it was a spoof, inspired in no small way by the plethora of Mr Reader's previous 'projects' :)

Why can't you help "save something" at the WSR like assist with either 88 or 4561 respective overhaul, or the GWR Carriage Project, or D7018?

Why do you have to start a new group, instead of helping something that's already set up and on your doorstep?

....because he wants to be the 'big fish in the little pond' not the 'little fish in the big pond' that most of us were when we started out.

Of course the GarrAtt new build FB page wasn't yours, it was set up as a spoof as stated above. If you can't follow simple stuff like this, it doesn't bode well for your more grandiose plans. I started cleaning at the KWVR aged 15 and spent six brilliant years learning to fire and helping to restore several Barry 'wrecks'. Sadly I had to give this up due to moving for work and then family commitments, but I made life-long friends, and it gave me the skills to get involved again with other groups once I retired, only now I also have other skills learned along the way, which open up other avenues too.

There is no quick fix, what you get out is directly related to what you put in, many have devoted far more years than I, are now loco owners, drivers and officers, and rightly so.

The spelling on that appeal is enough to make anyone run away from it!

I'll refer Stuart back to the advice I gave him way back in 2012: http://www.national-preservation.co...ll-ever-really-work.32387/page-19#post-467472 and there is a lot of other useful advice on that particular thread. Stuart said at that time that he was going to work through those points for his GWR 2859 project, so I assume he has done it for this one?

    No?

    Oh....

Give up Stuart - L1 (x2), J39, Dean Goods (x2), 2859, V3, Ruston Diesels at the EVR and now this - seriously, just take the hint and join a group. You really don't have to be in charge to enjoy restoration!

Oh dear, oh dear. I've just clicked on the pull downs.

The bottom one states "as soon as we raise £20,000 we will approach the current owners and say we would like to submit a bid for the unit". So he (SR?) is now appealing for money for a totally speculative project where the owner hasn't even been approached to see if they are remotely interested in a sale. So what happens when they say 'No'? Is there a mechanism to refund the monies, or will they be rolled over into his next 'must have' project? Fortunately the situation is unlikely to arise, as the fund currently stands at Zero Pounds, so he's not even backing himself it would seem!

As far as I can tell with crowdfunding, if the target is reached and your money is taken you can't get a refund, unless it breaks the rules of the crowdfunding platform. Which this project does, as they don't own the 3Cig or have permission to work on it.
