Quite right why should this magnificent machine be replaced by a nice but somewhat inferior Doncaster product.

    They'll have to take a coach off - mustn't overtax a class 7 locomotive!;)

If it is 44871 she needs to return from Grosmont then.

    taken from the Scotsman thread
We have been advised this morning that despite reassurances and the supreme effort made by Ian Riley and his team The Flying Scotsman will not be ready to haul our train. This is due to additional work being required on the brakes. This was identified during test runs on the East Lancashire Railway. This has resulted in insufficient time to complete the necessary paperwork required for the engine to return to the main line.
As originally advertised and due to the unavailability of The Flying Scotsman we will now be double headed throughout by two Black 5’s 44871 and 45407.

Please accept our apologies for any disappointment the change of locomotive may cause you and be assured that the whole team at The Railway Touring Company share your disappointment.

With 44871 currently at Grosmont a short notice path to get back to Bury would need to be sorted out unless a move by low loader is done, which I doubt Riley will do as none of the locos he owns have ever gone by road unless they have to due to being unfit for towing behind a diesel. Just have to see what the plan of action will be if it will be both the Black 5's or a black 5 & a jubilee. Worst case scenario is the tour gets postponed or axed altogether.

To be fair to the RTC, they never said anything about a Jubilee. That duff info came from people posting on here. I think you will find that their web site moved seamlessly from advertising FS to two Black 5s. But today is only Tuesday and the trip is on Saturday. ;)

Isn't 44871 still up at Grosmont?

    Edit - actually answered above.

Look on UK steam Al, its still up, clearly states 45402 (sic) +45699, doubt they would have done it off their own bat, I would expect RTC involvement somewhere ?

Strange that when RTC phoned me today to offer me a ticket for Saturday(which I declined) they said that they didn't know about FS not being available!

Or a 67  as decision day is tomorrow, or thursday , will 44871 be moved in a short notice move, or wait till the decision with a view to a run down on friday to be in place at Manchester saturdsy morning?

Dear god no, 45407 made a poor departure from Preston in the morning of 2015's WCME. A Load of 11 for a single black 5 is pushing the boundary and I can guarantee there would have been no chance of getting over Shap alone that day with that load. Till then were just gonna have to wait and see for when the timings for either 45699 or 44871 are announced on UK Steam. I Don't doubt Riley in anyway as his locos rarely fail but this is gonna be very close.

Shame you will miss out on 4472 David . A five can take 12 over Shap without assistance as 45305 did the job on the 27/8/11 but saying that it was dry that day .
