We all thought you were so well versed on WCR affairs Danny that you would tell us?...after all the provocation and ridicule towards WCR and staff that you have been posting?...what with your contacts in ORR etc?

Too many questions there for a simpleton like me Ian?
You the WCR defence spokesman now too? Oh how times and tunes change eh?
All the best in your endeavours anyhow. You need only ask politely if you want me to use those contacts

    Evening all

I sense a conversation that maybe best played out in private as opposed to a public forum @26D_M and @Ian Riley

We wish you well for this week as I sense all the eyes of preservation are turned to the north west

It's truly an honour, Henry, to earn opprobrium from the [tin] Gods.

Other mods have said we mustn't discourage the elite from posting though .......

I would rather have it from the "elite", than some bluster made up from second hand conversations.

The tripe you spout, makes it quite easy for Ian just to post it on his own forum instead, to the detriment of here.

Have a think about that, before engaging your keyboard.

:mad:I think we can well do without a slanging match, it demonstrates immaturity.:Shifty:
When Ian Riley does post he posts FACTS, and I for one thank him for that.

I've no desire to have a slanging match with anyone but I will defend any unwarranted criticism or abuse, especially when comments made are without foundation.
The forum clearly benefits considerably when the elite contribute in a rational, constructive, informed and objective manner - Bob Meanley being an exemplar of this.
My observation of what Ian largely posts sporadically here is different to yours, is usually in response to a perceived but non existent sleight. I have offered no criticism of Ian or his business that I can recollect but he chooses to publicly single me out for vitriolic abuse on topics that have no direct relevance to him. Yesterday I expressed sympathy for the fireman on 46233 suffering with bad coal on Saturday in the WCME thread. Ians contribution was to pull me up individually for being an armchair expert having a pop when nothing was further from the truth.
I would welcome his contribution more if it was based more in his immense knowledge and skill rather than petty personal vendettas. And before anyone comments, for the record, I have no axe to grind with Ian but find it disappointing to be the subject of his tedious ire so regularly. We were once good friends and had many good railway times together which I have very fond memories of. Indeed, he was an inspiration. Our opinions on ELR matters eventually diverged and I walked away so maybe he thinks I let him down. Water under the bridge as they say.
In the end you can only judge someone on how you find them to behave. Many people on the forum no doubt revere Ian for his public achievements, rightly so, he's a fabulous engineer indeed railwayman and something I have never once said otherwise.

Thanks for the pearls of wisdom. Your basis for dismissing comments as tripe and second hand bluster is?

OK everyone. 26D_M has chosen to share some information publicly that he wasn't obliged to. Now that the back story is out in the open and everyone is on the same page, so to speak, can we all move on?

And to believe I thought this thread was about the Flying Scotsman's return to traffic.

I run a national forum elsewhere and personal insults such as these should never be tolerated by the moderation team. Everyone is entitled to the same protection from armchair warriors and to prevent these mushroom clouds from developing.

It's being banded around in Lancaster that the test run is Thursday - no idea if this is true or the ultimate source of the story so don't shoot the messenger!

Edit - I note this is also suggested above (amongst the bickering!)

Good to see you have edited your previous post, as for dismissing your comments, more respected people have got on your case, and obviously struck a nerve.

Maybe reporting facts is the way forward, and agree Thursday looks to be a good day, reported elsewhere, from a reputable source.....
