Sorry if this has been posted already but I couldn't find a thread.
Latest issue of the Railway Magazine reports that 1744 & 60009 will be in steam in Platforms 7 & 8 at Kings Cross for the unveiling of the new Sir Nigel Gresley statue on 5th April. 1744 will be coupled to a Teak kitchen composite carriage from the SVR.

but what chances for anyone to get near ?

carriage is I think 7960 from the Flying Scotsman set which the late Phil James restored and is now almost complete under the auspices of the SVR rolling stock trust

Who'd have thought that within six months of each other that both York and Kings Cross would have had a pristine teak Gresley carriage standing in one of their platforms!

    Great stuff :)

Perhaps stupid question, but the N2 is not mainline certified - so will they make a special case for it to reach Kings X (towed?) and stand in steam on NR metals?

At what point does a loco need the full certification process? Presumably if it's only pulling a train or moving under it's own power?

Isn't there some sort of intermediate certification, such as was used to get Flying Scotsman from Bury to Carnforth recently?

I believe it was back in 2009 that several non-mainline locos were moved in steam from Swanage to Eastleigh and back - M7 30053, West Country 34028 'Eddystone' and possibly something else. Simply moving things around doesn't seem to be that much of an issue.

It was Manston and the M7 I believe, plus the Queen Mary brake van. Maybe a diesel too, I want to say 33103?

On 22nd May 2009 West Coast Railway's 37 706 hauled 34070 'Manston'; 34028 'Eddystone'; Southern livery 53 (BR 30053); Queen Mary Brake Van S56289 and Mk1 BSK 35464. All three locos were in light steam for lubrication purposes. JacksRailwayVideos:
The BSK was the support crew base and the QM brake van provided depot shuttle rides hauled by 53 using Swanage loco crews and Guards. Bodmin's Beattie Well Tank also hauled it at times.
34070 had to be left at Eastleigh to sort out a warm bearing I believe.
I don't recall any Swanage diesels attending Eastleigh 100.

The loco moves in and out of Waterloo for the railway children, shunt moves at York (including 60008 and 60010), the annual LUL moves of the Bluebell met set ... Stuffs been moved many times adhoc before.

However an N2 at KX is going to be quite a piece of history.

KX is also a busy place, so not sure how long they will hang out or how "exclusive" this will be.

Not sure that really qualifies, moving the Mets is simply a case of moving a set of rolling stock registered with Network Rail, the same as any other ECS move on the network.

Given that Gresley also built engines named 'Call Boy' and 'Gay Crusader' it strikes me that his family should have been relieved that all they were going to get was a duck.

The report in the Magazine says that the loco's will be in the platforms all day as the platforms are long enough to accommodate service trains going in and out while the loco's and the carriage are in them.
The N2 is being moved to London by road and will then be moved in a diesel hauled convoy with 60009 and the carriage to Kings Cross. The N2 is due to go to the Epping Ongar railway after the event.

Is this still planned to go ahead with the locomotives? Can't find much anywhere, or is it all being kept quiet as was the C class visit last month?

The latest issue of Steam Railway suggests its now just the N2 in light steam with one of the SVR's Teak carriages attending. According to the article 60009 will no longer be attending because the transport cost was to high.

Hi all, i have found some useful information with regards to the event
60009 isn't coming down now because the Gresley Society won't fund the move from Thornton to London and back (real blow :()
1744 left the GCR a few days ago and the statue is in its place at KGX, 11am is the unavailing in the concourse and they ask to bring your own duck as Gresley won't have his... ;)
