As all the tickets for the other tours are sold out i suspect they have been bought up by ticket agencies and will be sold on at a profit.

Just in case anyone else is under some misapprehension about the role of NP. It's a discussion forum and has nothing to do with the NRM who makes all the official announcements about Flying Scotsman. Neither has it any connection with Riley & Son who have undertaken the restoration and have their own forum - The Works.

If we are lucky, Ian Riley may post messages on NP but he's doing us a favour if he does and they are not a substitute for the official channels. Given a few comments on here you wouldn't blame him for not bothering all that often.

Remember that the NRM has somehow convinced the Science Museum that £4.2 million was justified to restore the loco. There will have been a fancy PowerPoint presentation somewhere along the line showing how it can earn most of that back over the next 10 years. Think of it as feasible in the same way some of those dreamers on Dragons Den think they will be multimillionaires in 18 months ....... :)

For £450 I'd expect 3 slap up meals in the comfort of a Pullman!

Just think for that price 2 of you can travel premier dining behind Duchess of Sutherland and have plenty of change left. What's the difference, both are pacifics, both are green, both have deflectors, both make a chuffing noise and the smoke/steam smells the same. No contest.

    £450! :eek:o_O
That's me out then. Jesus, when Steam Dreams see that they will put their tour prices up again. I see they have put most of them up in price since selling out of the Scotsman tours.
£109 for SD STD class now :( ML steam is too expensive for me now.

Assuming that you would want to take your nearest and dearest for the experience, that's 900 quid plus the cost of getting to London. I've just booked a weeks holiday in Portugal for less than that including car hire. They don't deserve to fill the train Its extortionate.

    Agreed
Lots of locos are superior machines, peppercorns Pacifics, the Spam cans and of course the princess coronation class mentioned above, it's this celebrity status that demands the price, if it was performance based then even trips behind black fives would be more expensive (my LMS bias isn't showing... Much ;) )

Not sure why you quoted me there Al - surely your point is the same as mine? It's '26D_M' that has an opposing view...

    The top 1% undoubtedly.

More annoyingly is that I'm in York on the 24th so miss it by a day

Maybe I can publish this now, after five years!

At £450, I am seriously debating whether I can afford over two thirds of my monthly wage to go on this. The locomotive was built to transport the public in the first place and was used on all manner of express trains which included a number of different classes. Why could there not have been standard and premier seating at different price ranges, as there are on other mainline steam trains?

Makes me sad to think of the people who will miss out on this, mostly people who've previously donated to both her purchase and overhaul but can't afford the likes of this.

I'm sure these people will get their chance in the future at a more reasonable cost but for now it makes sense to
coin it in while they can...................it's the way of the world!
