A Deltic would surely be the most apt choice but is 55002 running on two engines again yet?

Now hang on a minute. It's Flying Scotsman's day. The return journey will be dominated by conversations over the wonderful trip North. No one is going to care a jot what is pulling it back, I would suggest. And what is so special about a Deltic anyway? As a kid, I hated them because they replaced the majestic A3's and A4's.

Bring on 60103. Can't wait to see her in Brunswick Green and latest BR logo.

You're absolutely right, it IS 60103's day. But what harm is there in putting something like a Deltic on the return leg? If no one cares what's doing the honours on the way back, then surely it doesn't matter if it is an express passenger diesel from the 1960s or an express passenger diesel from the 2000s?

I suggested it as something a bit different to a class 67 or class 90, that was all.

You are absolutely right of course. It is just a scar I have carried for years about Deltics. I have the same scars for Warships and Westerns as they replaced the Castles and Kings when I was a tiny spotter.

Perhaps they will be red tablecloths if Virgin are involved?

Apparently this guy below is checking the tickets on the trip. He was pictured earlier today counting all the money rolling in for the tickets so far............;)

I think the time might be ripe for revisiting the second paragraph of geekfindergeneral's original post. I have quoted it below should anyone need to refresh their memory.

What a negative post. Did you not know that Scotsman completed two test runs today?

I did find the ticket price a bit of a shock especially for a trip on a Thursday (I was hoping to see her off at King's Cross but will be at work that day) and with steam one way.

I'm not yet convinced they have secured the Belmond Pullman's but 60103 will look even more splendid if they have but whatever stock they have I'm looking forward to seeing her back in steam again and will be keeping a keen eye on YouTube for videos of the run.

Indeed, I did know that. How could I fail not to, given the amount of publicity it has received hereabouts. The story ain't finished yet though and I fear a twist or two more before the last page is reached.

Quite frankly, if anyone is thick skinned and crazy enough to want to be on "the first Flying Scotsman train", they probably won't notice the ching.

I couldn't think of a worse FS hauled railtour to go on: getting stopped every few miles because selfish er, individuals have to trespass on the railway for their phots, hordes of window lickers and dribblers at every station it stops at, no doubt every coach will have a commentary about everything to do with trains from a braying loudmouth know-all-bugger-all with a voice like a foghorn exceeding 120 dB.

If I were the slightest bit interested in paying to ride behind FS, I would leave it a few months until the summer when the trains are half full because the interest has died down.

Didn't notice this originally, but never miss a chance to knock Mr Smith eh, it seems it's OK for you to tastelessly bring it up but you object when you think others might, in your opinion, be doing it.

I thought, given recent developments, it was rather succint and insightful.

I'm going to get a new book especially for your name, when I come to power my associates (there are many on here) and myself will hang you on a lamp bracket (or the winged thistle headboard) on the front of one of the mighty machines.......York to KX.:Rage:

    ;) :)

Hell, FS one way and a Deltic return might make the asking price a little more palatable. That WOULD be a special day.

Isn't it more likely to be the Northern Belle set? Isn't that 7 FOs + kitchen cars?

Never understood all the fuss about A Deltic, it's a soulless tin box like all the other soulless tin boxes, just a bit of a different shape. I hated them for seeing off Sir Nigel's finest.
