The rain stopped for a few minutes as FS crested the summit at Wilpshire in almost complete darkness. Some time had been regained (34L), the train was travelling appreciably faster than on the test run; FS appeared to be working moderately but without the full exhaust of some of the vids - still sounded good. The diesel was working, by no means flat out, however the speed and the gain on schedule from Clitheroe suggests that FS was understandably getting some assistance.

Footage of 60103 thundering through Pleasington this evening-just before the rain became really heavy...

I think this was the 1st time 60103, has visited Carlisle. Since the 12th of September 1992. Can anyone confirm if this is correct.

Don't know about the 12th, but 4472 worked an Armathwaite to Bradford charter on the 26th of September 1992.

Its the sort of weather that sorts the men from the boys - and produces unique shots like below which makes it worth the effort to stand in the pouring rain for 45 minutes to ensure your place in the line-up (and history !!)

That was the Cam-Eden Express with steam from Farington Junction. Only one way steam most of the time then.

Reminds me of 60112 at Grantham on a troop train in 1964, so grimy it just appeared to be a dull black - if it had only had a faded BR number and logo 60103 would have ben a dead ringer. An opportunity missed to go back in time (but only for non contributing photographers benefit of course).

A great day for all those involved, team Ian Riley, RTC, WCRC, and NR, under the circumstances of a potential land slip problem.
From an operational aspect, I would guess WCRC would have needed to resource at least six train crews, from positioning the rolling stock in London, to delivering FS to the MRM at York late last night. Quite a challenge logistically.
The support crews looking after FS, also need well deserved praise for their efforts.
Great videos from the usual contributors, and the BBC news item was quite good, and as mentioned in an earlier post, the shot going over Ribblehead is especially good, and very moody. The Phoenix rising!
